Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Great history of Sapiens. Terrifying speculations of what sapiens do to the environment and themselves to become what comes after Sapiens.

Too much gamer chatter
Revisado: 03-10-24
This was a tough listen. Perhaps it’s a better read than a listen but I don’t know. I’ve listened to the whole series and this is by far my least favorite. I know the gamer stuff was the point but it got old really fast and then was merely annoying and to be endured until the “real” book re-emerged. Definitely not my cup of tea.

Preachy
Revisado: 11-25-23
I have enjoyed the previous books in this series. They are droll portraits of what I imagine to be quirky north country folk. Unfortunately this 10th book seemed little more than an extended and quite preachy sermon on the evils of addiction. Gambling and alcohol. Disappointing.

Historia
May 1912. After the previous year’s deadly heatwave, it’s been an uneventful spring in Littleton Cotterell. Though for Lady Hardcastle and her fiercely loyal lady’s maid Flo, at least there are the provincial delights of the village’s inaugural art exhibition—and bicycle race—to look forward to. But at the exhibition opening, there’s a panicked shout of ‘Fire!’ In the confusion, the main attraction—an extremely expensive book—is stolen from under everyone’s nose, as is a valuable painting lent by Sir Hector Farley-Stroud.

Disappointing story
Revisado: 08-25-22
Having read all the other titles in this series, I was expecting better. This did not quite hold up to the others for 2 reasons. Most disappointing was the introduction of Oldroid’s new love interest, Debrah. She was poorly written. Not believable at all. A sophisticated highly educated and successful woman would not likely tell a man he was fat, needed to exercise, to shut up, and to eat no meat while on the second date. So unrealistic . I also thought the secondary story line of the female police officer was a poorly written cliché of sexual harassment in the work place. Fortunately I didn’t read this series in order or I may not have continued past this volume.

Historia
In the chilly depths of a Yorkshire winter, a well-liked rector is found bludgeoned to death in her own church. With no sign of a murder weapon, local superstition quickly pins the blame on the ghost of a medieval monk believed to haunt the building. Well accustomed to unusual murder investigations, DCI Jim Oldroyd takes on the case, along with his assistant, Sergeant Andy Carter, but they are hampered at every turn by the deepening snow and the threat of the supernatural.

Not your usual mystery
Revisado: 02-28-22
Quite brave of the author taking on the conservative wing of Christianity in this reactionary day and age. Bravo. The mystery itself was moderately interesting and plausible but the meat here is forthright criticism of sexism and homophobia in Christian churches. Unfortunately those who need it most will not likely read this.

Can one be bored to death?
Revisado: 01-09-22
Without doubt the most boring book I’ve ever listened to. Very disappointing as I’m a fan of the Lady Hardcastle novels. What on earth happened here? The characters were uninteresting and the plot was contrived. An absolute waste of Audible hours.

Out of character with the prior books. Too much psychological and physical violence. Solving the case was over shadowed by the unnecessary violence. I do not recommend this book.

So disappointing
Revisado: 07-27-18
Standard plot of flawed heroine winning the love of handsome duke. Unfortunately neither character is very engaging or sympathetic and I didn't care much if they worked through the very unbelievable plot to eventually live happily ever after or not. I trudged through the entire story because I always finish what I start, not because I was interested. The final few pages picked up with a bit of a twist at the ending but I do not recommend the book.
