Historia
Ike Randolph has been out of jail for fifteen years, with not so much as a speeding ticket in all that time. But a Black man with cops at the door knows to be afraid. The last thing he expects to hear is that his son Isiah has been murdered, along with Isiah’s white husband, Derek. Ike had never fully accepted his son but is devastated by his loss. Derek’s father Buddy Lee was almost as ashamed of Derek for being gay as Derek was ashamed his father was a criminal. Buddy Lee still has contacts in the underworld, though, and he wants to know who killed his boy.

Thrilling and Suspensful
Revisado: 01-22-24
this is a oddly beautiful story of two old, violent men learning to understand their gay sons while seeking revenge for their murders. it was fantastic and kept me guessing.

He intended to spur her on to new adventures, but despite clinging to her red suitcase, Geraldine Verne hasn’t left the house for three months. It takes an accident for Geri to accept help from her friends, but when Meals on Wheels arrive she is mortified. Yet heartbroken volunteer Lottie brings with her more than cottage pie and custard. the book about grief I didn't know I needed
Revisado: 02-08-22
this book helped me so much. I didn't even know I needed it. it gently takes you through all the stages with honesty and it is like you are holding hands with a friend as you walk through it together. the author has beautifully created a story to bring hope to living with grief.

Phenomenal!
Revisado: 10-15-21
This was one of those rare books that left me wanting to devour it all in one sitting, but also forcing myself not to because I didn't want it to end.
As the granddaughter of a boarding school survivor I loved all the intertwining of the language, religion, and culture. I learn so much about my own culture that was stolen from my grandmother.
I am left wanting to learn more about my culture and very impatiently waiting for Angeline Boulley to write more books for me to devour.

Historia
At 72, Johnny Ribkins shouldn't have such problems: he's got one week to come up with the money he stole from his mobster boss or it's curtains. What may or may not be useful to Johnny as he flees is that he comes from an African American family that has been gifted with superpowers that are a bit, well, odd. Okay, very odd. For example, Johnny's father could see colors no one else could see. His brother could scale perfectly flat walls. His cousin belches fire. And Johnny himself can make precise maps of any space you name, whether he's been there or not.
