This is such a thrilling and engaging story. I particularly like the unusual focus on a bad person and it actually not going well for the heroine. I wonder if she is the first “I can fix him,” example, particularly with a realistic result. The story is related in a really clever way, too, in written accounts from the main two characters so that details are obscured from each other and the reader based on what the narrator at the time knows. I liked, too, how they brought this out in the performance with two people reading it. It was an immense pleasure to listen to while I drive around DoorDashing, and I found it made me want to stay out later to get further into the story.

I love these peeks into old British society. The challenge of all the extra rules and customs that makes social interaction and courtship suspenseful and the longer the game of it is drawn out, the better. I think so far this is the best example I’ve heard, even better than Pride and Prejudice. Mr. Darcy is witty and amusing enough, but I think he seems “safe” and bland next to Mr. Rochester.

As for the production itself, I love how the reader has many, distinguishable voices for the characters and that adds a good deal to the immersion. My only complaint is that her “s” and “sh” sounds are sharp and piercing, and combined with the poor quality of my speakers, I often had to turn it down to keep from hurting my ears. Other than that I enjoyed it immensely.

In these last couple books, they’ve gone Tarantino-style and started making the stories all come together in random order, chronologically speaking. It adds new elements to think about, and really makes it fun. I can’t wait to find out more about The Mimic, and rooting for the poor people still dealing with it!

Perfect, as usual. I especially love the detailed locations! The descriptions exactly match the layout of Security Breach, and lines up with plausible canon beautifully. I don’t have any trouble picturing EXACTLY where the characters are, as I’ve spent HOURS running around there myself, and I am living for these extra details about life for Fazbear Entertainment employees! RUIN just came out and I can’t wait to get back in there! I love this universe! I feel like I’m home wherever I am when I’m consuming FNAF media. One special favorite thing about this one was it has one of the rare instances in these shorts series where any of the animatronics are good. Scary and deadly and susceptible to Corruption, but well meaning. I am starting the next one as soon as I hit submit!

And I think I read it was the last one, so that is really unfortunate!

It really felt FNAF if that makes any sense! And it ends on a high note with a game character, at least as an homage it not them themselves. Loved it so much l’m tearing up a little! Can’t wait for the Pizzaplex Trilogy!

Which isn’t to say either is better or worse. I found I loved both, but there are always things lost in translation from book to movie, while movies benefit from refinement via hindsight.

It’s hard to say with any amount of accuracy since I DID see the movie before listening to the book, but I feel like the over arching connections are difficult to make out without the visual representations, so it might seem like a vaguely related anthology, but the stories are definitely interesting enough each on their own.

Great themes, touching moments, charming wit.

I loved the performance. The man did a good job making old pirate voices, and all manner of seafaring folk besides.

As for the story, there were a few clever lines that I have not heard in Muppet Treasure Island or Treasure Planet (I don’t remember the Disney production of Treasure Island well enough to vouch for that being the case there), but short of that, there were a lot of long descriptions of boats and seas and shorelines that I neither understood nor could picture, so there were periods I just spaced out and wasn’t paying attention. I would say film adaptations are very faithful and only flush out the important themes and points of interest.

I just LOVED the 2005 film, and went to see it in the theater about 5 times. Now that I’ve been able to afford an Audible account, I have been making a point of listening to the famous pieces of literature that are considered classics and included in the subscription, so this was no exception.

While the story is the phenomenal piece it is made out to be, I found with a great deal of shock that I do not care for Austen’s style! Her wit is undeniable, but the fact that most of the dialogue is merely described and inferred rather than stated outright is a great surprise that I do not care for. I have my doubts whether I will listen to any of her other works, as I found much of this (supposedly the best one) like describing a dream, all together to vague to occupy my imagination.

As for the performance, I see a lot of people praising it, and a lot of people saying it is terrible! I thought it was really good, as long as she was not doing the voice for Mariah Lucas.

It didn’t say anywhere in the description that I saw that it was not the full book. I will have to listen to the entire thing at some point, and I wish I had known less than 3/4ths in, as this is great probably for people who already know the story and just want productions of it, but I had seen the 2019 movie and loved it and wondered how close to the book it was. The thing about productions is that what is cut creates a different context and is biased to the producer, rather than what the author intended.

Still, it was extremely enjoyable, and this timeless classic really doesn’t date itself. I am amazed to find that I have many of the same problems today as Jo March did in American Civil War times, and I know people relate with all of the sisters, and that makes it easy to become invested in the coming of age narrative.

I appreciate the book’s importance in history when it was first published as a work that broke ground in what was allowed to be published in terms of homoeroticism and LGBTQA themes, but by today’s standard, it was hardly even noticeable, and on top of that, there were long passages that seemed either pretentious or pointless, and I had a hard time understanding a lot of what was said and thought. By my account, it seemed sloppy and disjointed, and the only character I liked at all was Ser Henry, who reminded me a lot of my favorite fictional character of all time. I would say it was still worth pursuing the narrative for him alone, but I would rather it had been abridged, or just a collection of quotes and scenes of him. I would say if you care a lot about the history of LGBTQA authors and works, it is an important read, but it doesn’t offer much else. The message I perceived even offended me a bit, in that I know many wonderful but ugly people, and many gorgeous terrible ones. The body is not a reflection of one’s soul, and while it could be said the painting WAS a reflection of the soul, it was inferred many times that wicked deeds would have changed the subject’s appearance, and I think that is, as a word the book was found of using, shallow.
