Good but frustrating narration
Revisado: 07-23-18
It’s a great series, definitely worth your credits. Sort of a gentler zombie apocalypse with dragons and magic tale.
Although I think the narrator is skilled, I found his inability to not speak like an upper class English gentleman frustrating. There are main characters who are from the streets and who use corresponding language, yet he chooses to do their voices like King George is reading their lines. I found that forever distracting.

Say one thing for Logen Ninefingers...

Say that his story ends abruptly.
We deserve better, but when does anyone get what they deserve?
You have to be realistic.

Historia
Spur Award-winner Craig Johnson has garnered critical acclaim for his Walt Longmire mysteries. In this riveting seventh entry, Wyoming’s Absaroka County sheriff, Walt Longmire, is pushed beyond his limits. When three hardened convicts escape FBI custody in a mountain blizzard, an armed psychopath leads them up Big Horn Mountain. As Longmire struggles to track their treacherous ascent, he’ll need all the help he can get from the tribal spirits of the towering summit.

My favorite so far!
Revisado: 04-25-13
I’m a great big Walt Longmire/Craig Johnson/ George Guidall fan. I have enjoyed them all, but I love this one the most. This story has been on my mind, long after I finished it… which is the mark of a great story in my book. I would describe this one as mystery/thriller/modern western with American Indian mythology/spirituality and a bit of the paranormal.
In addition, Dante’s Inferno is very successfully woven into the story line.
Walt is really on his own most of the story, pursuing escaped and dangerous criminals through a snow storm in rough mountainous country. Virgil White Buffalo makes his appearance when the FBI (fans will know what that stands for) is needed most. We get much deeper insights into Vigils character and into an American Indian view of life and death.
I think writing this took a bit of courage on Mr. Johnson’s part. This one is not your typical Walt Longmire story and it would have probably been safer to stick with the successful formula. I for one found this to be a wonderful side trip in an excellent series.

Historia
Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

Fun listen
Revisado: 09-06-12
A really fun book to listen to, a little "comic-booky" if compared to something like Mistborn or Wheel of Time. It made me think of The Fantastic Four or Raiders of the Lost Ark (with magic). I wish it had been longer and had delved a little deeper into the characters lives and the magic system. There is a lot of action, almost non-stop, which I enjoy. Bronson Pinchot does a great job (as usual) and is very funny at times. Worth your time and your credit!

Historia
My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me. So begins a tale told from his own point of view - a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Tediuos - long, slow and tiresome
Revisado: 04-19-12
Any additional comments?
I am a lover of fantasy and really wanted to love this book as it came so highly recommended. I read the first book and it had glimpses of a really good story, Kvothe’s tragic loss of his family his struggle to survive and his finally finding the relative security of the University with its friends and successes. I finished that first book feeling like there should have been more, more conflict, darker enemies, more life and death challenges and more magic. The second book is just difficult to even listen to. The story is not much more interesting than listening to the real life diary of a teenage boy. Kvothe has the added benefit of being a talented lute player and brilliant student knows some magic, but it’s really the story of a self-conscious geek who spends his time competing with his rival, pining for a girl and making one stupid choice after another. For me it’s just a long boring story…I regret buying it.
