Historia
The Reaper is a legend, more myth than man: the savior of worlds, the leader of the Rising, the breaker of chains. But the Reaper is also Darrow, born of the red soil of Mars: a husband, a father, a friend. The worlds once needed the Reaper. But now they need Darrow. Because after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope.

Rousing and heartbreaking, a thrill like few others. I laughed and cried and shivered and was filled with dread and hope. I’ll miss those characters that didn’t make it and pray for those that did in the journey to come.

Historia
In her mid-20s, at the height of tech industry idealism, Anna Wiener - stuck, broke, and looking for meaning in her work, like any good millennial - left a job in book publishing for the promise of the new digital economy. She moved from New York to San Francisco, where she landed at a big-data startup in the heart of the Silicon Valley bubble: A world of surreal extravagance, dubious success, and fresh-faced entrepreneurs hell-bent on domination, glory, and, of course, progress.

Incompetent Yet Morally Superior, A Memoir
Revisado: 08-09-21
It was interesting to read this first person account of start up and Silicon Valley culture, and I applaude the author for their openness in sharing their own insecurities and less flattering side.
Unfortunately it's a very childish point of view, one that really frames the victimhood mindset of so many young people today. Everything is someone else's fault, especially all those pesky white males, a group framed as the cause of all ills multiple times.
The tone is excessively negative throughout. There not a hint of gratitude for all the opportunities the author has recieved, or much of an acknowledgement of all the benefits to society that many hard working teams have brought. The contribution of the author is elevated a near CEO level, hovering around a director level impact, despite being a junior level employee in a secondary department everywhere the author went.
The book is filled with a moral supremecy complex framed by the political agenda of left wing feminism. There is very little self introspection, and the views of others are denegrated.
I can only hope that the writer reflects on their own shortcomings in the future, and takes a more balanced perspective as they mature. Not holding my breath.

Historia
Serving as a powerful follow-up to Jordan Peterson’s book 12 Rules for Life, Dr. Gad Saad unpacks what is really happening in progressive safe zones, why we need to be paying more attention to these trends, and what we must do to stop the spread of dangerous thinking. A professor at Concordia University who has witnessed this troubling epidemic firsthand, Dr. Saad dissects a multitude of these concerning forces (corrupt thought patterns, belief systems, attitudes, etc.) that have given rise to a stifling political correctness in our society.

Historia
In The Wind Through the Keyhole, Stephen King has returned to the rich landscape of Mid-World. This story within a story within a story finds Roland Deschain, Mid-World’s last gunslinger, in his early days during the guilt-ridden year following his mother’s death. Sent by his father to investigate evidence of a murderous shape-shifter, a "skin-man", Roland takes charge of Bill Streeter, a brave but terrified boy who is the sole surviving witness to the beast’s most recent slaughter.

Beauty within beauty
Revisado: 11-02-20
I didn't think that I would enjoy the flashback style narrative, especially when there was a flashback inside a flashback. However, it was all told with such beauty and magic, and fit together so well as a stand alone story and as an interconnecting piece of the overall series, that I could not help but fall in love with the tale. A fitting resolution to Roland and his connection with his mother. As a reader that had just finished book four, this novel, what seemed like a distraction at first, has filled in a hole that I did not know was there. To listen to it told by none other than Stephen King himself was just the icing on the cake.

Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

What to hear a thousand questions and hypothesis answers on all things human? This is the book for you.
The concept of the imagined order, is the best take away from this book. That states that none of the things we take for granted, nations, religion, capitalism, currency, are nothing but orders created by the human mind.
This book forces you to question so many things about human nature and history, and should be required reading for everyone. It makes you think and question everything.

Historia
In this stunning audiobook, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers" - the best and the brightest, the most famous, and the most successful. He asks the question: What makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: That is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing.

Circumstance, Work, inheritance
Revisado: 03-22-20
Are outliers really so special? Where do they come from and why? Are they actually as special as we are led the believe? Is the conventional narrative really telling us the whole story?
This book sheds new insight on the notion of individual exceptionalism and the self made man or woman. Through a series of real world examples, Gladwell argues that none of us truly walk down a road that we built ourselves. Luck or circumstance, hard work or mastery, and inheritance or personal history of our culture all play a part.
Outliers exist, but were more given opportunity, we may have many more of these special people, and, if the narrative of our own lives been different, we may have become a world famous outlier ourselves. If luck, dedication, and culture allow it, we may yet still.

Revisado: 09-18-19
A must read. Technology futurists often focuses on robots and AI, and biology is often overlooked. Considering the current state of gene editing and embro selection already, the forecasts and possibilities of this book do not seem as much science fiction as they do realistic future science fact.
