Historia
People say I'm a weirdo. Sure, my idea of a party is a mini box of wine and hanging out with a feral raccoon, but it works for me. When I’m accused of murder, things get crazy. One, I learn that I have magic. Two, there’s a secret magical city hidden right in London itself. And three, my only hope is a vampire who’s sexy as sin and scary as the devil himself. He's called the Devil of Darkvale, and he all but owns Guild City. Some say I should just quit and turn myself in. Not a chance. I’m going to solve this murder myself.

Right up my fantasy magic Alley
Revisado: 11-28-24
I listen to audiobooks on my long commute to and from work. I can't remember if it took me some time to get into the story in the beginning, it usually does, what I can say for sure is I got myself so emotionally invested in the characters, I found myself sneaking listening time at lunch and at home. I bought the whole set and listened to it continuously. the narrator does a great job differentiating the vocal tones of each character with different accents, which to my American ears sounded pretty authentic to me. I love the whole Fantasy Genre and also love a good mystery/adventure. I was on the edge of my seat through some pretty tense moments. Also, just my thing, I'm not real fond of graphic sex scenes, these were steamy, but not over the top and certainly not the focal point of the book, just what was needed to bring the fated love connection to life for the listener without being smarmy. The girlfriend bonds with the other female characters was super cool, they all supported and fought for each other, a real sisterhood amongst gals from different magical backgrounds, I loved that. No mean girls. Bottom line, I found everything to love about this series and I wish it wasn't over.

An angst-ridden punk rock version of literature
Revisado: 01-24-23
Before anything else... the piano piece at the end of each chapter and the guitar riff at the beginning ARE both relevant. They both come from the same song by Tim Black called "She Made the Angels Cry". you can find it on YouTube by searching the artist and song title, in that order.
This story IS cohesive, takes several chapters to begin to put the story together, is well written on a literary level, and, after a few chapters will coalesce enough to follow.
It is also very dark and also brutal. Not for listeners who need relationships to be aligned with societal norms.
I started listening for two reasons, I love the narrator, listened to her in two other stores... she can do just about any accent/dialect she needs for her characters.... and it comes in a boxed set that will take a long time to get through. Audiobooks get me through my work commute.
Some of the reviews say the narrator "screams" and they experience radical volume changes. It has to be their audio equipment, I have not experienced that at any point in the books. I am on JBL speakers in my car and Samsung Pro earbuds when not in the car.
One review stated she said "allow it" in places where the dialogue is "no" in the printed book. I heard her do it and looked it up, it's British vernacular for "just leave it alone" or "don't worry about it" depending on the context.
This whole story is dark, twisted and massively emo. if you can't stand listening to a story that is full of characters who only know hurt, pain, to dominate and subjugate, and sometimes protect in painful and heartbreaking ways, then just don't.
This misadventure is dark and dank. Love is twisted into something bearing no resemblance to what we know as love. Protection involves a lot of punishment and painful lessons.
I can't figure out the lies from truth. The Angels in no way resemble what we see and read about in our real lives. They are a bastardization of the beings... no halos, no white feathers. They are mean and sadistic.
There are some tender moments, they are few, and nothing in the story gives you much of a clue as to what is going on, who everyone really is or why things are about to happen as they do. This isn't a bad thing, you are figuring things out, on the whole, at the same time as the main character.
All that said, it's not for the mass population, but, if you can see art in literature and appreciate it at the artist's level, beyond your own preferences and perception of right and wrong, it is a stout and entertaining listen.

Historia
Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations.

Poorly written

This could have been so much better. I stuck it out to the end, but it was so cliché for so much of the book, it was hard to keep reading. much of the story was just overdone.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Poor second half
Revisado: 08-27-20
The book was very engaging for the first half, the rest was disappointing and uninspiring. I guess I was waiting for a twist, some mystery, some justice. Nope. Just nope.

Historia
On a dark, wintry day, Eliza Grey receives a mysterious letter from her ailing Nana Mora begging her to come for a visit. This is an easy "Yes". Eliza has always preferred Nana Mora's beach cottage on St. Simons Island to the apartment she and her mom call home in the city. The island is a magical place where stories and legends grow as thick as the Spanish moss dangling in the trees. Now, Nana Mora's eyesight is fading, and there's something she wants to show Eliza before it’s totally gone: a mythical place locals refer to as Sirens Harbor.

cute fairytale. cute story. moderately entertaining on a long drive. I'm not sure I would ever recommend it to anyone except maybe if a mom or dad were reading to A school-aged small girl. but I enjoyed it.

Historia
Father of cyberpunk William Gibson’s original script for Alien III, written in 1987 as a sequel to Aliens, never made it to our screens, although it went on to achieve cult status among fans as the third instalment that might have been after being leaked online. This terrifying, cinematic multicast dramatisation - directed by the multi-award-winning Dirk Maggs - is the chance to experience William Gibson’s untold story and its terrifying, claustrophobic and dark encounters between humans and aliens, as a completely immersive audio experience.

Missed Ellen Ripley
Revisado: 07-29-20
the story was pretty good, the performances were very good, just not what I expected from an alien book. I missed Ellen Ripley, she plays a very minor tertiary role and is not in most of it. sigourney Weaver is not voicing Ripley, which is probably why she didn't have more of a part. I'm not sure I like the way it ended it left it open, felt like there should have been more story. it was mostly fight, not a lot of story or character interaction or development.

mystery, intrigue, and a surprise ending
Revisado: 07-17-20
This audiobook was quite a surprise, the story starts out with you thinking what's going on who is this what's the mystery? and then a little action, when that's done it has a very sweet neatly tied up ending. I really enjoyed listening to this book.

I'm so confused
Revisado: 07-10-20
the narratives by all of the different voice actors were done pretty well, with a couple of exceptions that we're kind of annoying. I have no idea what's going on, some post-apocalyptic story from destroying to bits and pieces of all the characters and their experiences from adults to a few children one very small. definitely not the raptor, seems just really confusing and hard to get through. and the story doesn't end with the ending this is just one episode, you have to buy the rest to get the rest of the story and for me it's not worth it.

Slow start, when Lisbeth showed up, bam. Loved it
Revisado: 07-08-20
the beginning started to lose my attention, but don't give up, this one is just as good as all the others and Lisbeth kicks butt! love the relationship between her and the boy and how she swoops in and becomes the hero. The ending is quite sweet.
