Historia
Trauma and Recovery is revered as the seminal text on understanding trauma survivors. By placing individual experience in a broader political frame, Harvard psychiatrist Judith Herman argues that psychological trauma is inseparable from its social and political context. Drawing on her own research on incest, as well as a vast literature on combat veterans and victims of political terror, she shows surprising parallels between private horrors like child abuse and public horrors like war.

Barometer of healing
Revisado: 02-03-25
This book first came out in 1992. I found it in college and used it as source material during master’s program research. Over several reads, over several years, it holds up and is still powerful and well balanced. Validating the seen and unseen struggle to survive and remain psychologically “intact” as well as these effects on a group, community, nation, generation, it has informed my own growth and my work with others.
It is beautiful to notice how I’ve healed with each read/listen. Very relevant for our times.
