Historia
The brief, brilliant essay "Silk Parachute", which first appeared in The New Yorker over a decade ago, has become John McPhee's most anthologized piece of writing. In the nine other pieces here - highly varied in length and theme - McPhee ranges with his characteristic humor and intensity through lacrosse, long-exposure view-camera photography, the weird foods he has sometimes been served in the course of his travels, a US Open golf championship, and a season in Europe "on the chalk" from the downs and sea cliffs of England to the Netherlands and France.

Don't miss this McPhee either
Revisado: 05-17-22
Highly crafted writing on various non-fictional topics; compiled as selections more personal to the author and intimately read by McPhee himself.

so very glad I listened to this

Exceeded expectations! I was very pleased that this audio presentation used three great narrators/readers for the voices of the protagonist and supporting characters. Sweet emphasis on kindness.

Xiomara Batista feels unheard and unable to hide in her Harlem neighborhood. Ever since her body grew into curves, she has learned to let her fists and her fierceness do the talking. But Xiomara has plenty she wants to say, and she pours all her frustration and passion onto the pages of a leather notebook, reciting the words to herself like prayers - especially after she catches feelings for a boy in her bio class named Aman, whom her family can never know about.

Filled with balance and power
Revisado: 07-26-20
So wonderful to hear Elizabeth Acevedo narrate her book with the pacing, dialect, and poetic emotion as she wrote it. There is enough evil and misunderstanding and generational divide and love and grace to display a story that metaphorically rings true. Extremely well done.

Historia
The lines. No ship can traverse the void without them. Only linesmen can work with them. But only Ean Lambert hears their song. And everyone thinks he's crazy.... Most slum kids never go far, certainly not becoming a level 10 linesman like Ean. Even if he's part of a small and unethical cartel, and the other linesmen disdain his self-taught methods, he's certified and working. Then a mysterious alien ship is discovered at the edges of the galaxy.

highly enjoyable light read
Revisado: 05-08-20
Read this once, then listened to it a couple years later. Good ideas and twists. Some phrases in the character development become repetitive. Well read with range of voice. I enjoyed yhe novel
both times I picked it up.

Historia
In 1349, one small town in Germany disappeared and was never resettled. Tom, a contemporary historian, and his theoretical-physicist girlfriend, Sharon, become interested. By all logic, the town should have survived, but it didn't. Why? What was special about Eifelheim that it utterly disappeared more than 600 years ago?

a wonderful reading of quality story
Revisado: 04-04-16
I enjoyed reading this book several years ago, and have since read most of Michael Flynn's science fiction. Anthony Heald narrates the story in a pleasantly amazing way. High Quality
