Good content but doesn't work as an audiobook
Revisado: 03-27-24
I got through about 3 chapters before returning this audiobook and getting an ebook copy instead. The topic was discussed in a straightforward and reasonably accessible manner, and I liked the narrator well enough, but the narration continually referenced figures and tables that do not exist in audiobook form (or an accompanying PDF), so I felt like I was missing a lot of context.

Historia
One night, Molly Clarke walked away from her life. She doesn't want to be found. Or at least, that's the story. The car abandoned miles from home. The note found at a nearby hotel. The shattered family that couldn’t be put back together. They called it a “walk away.” It happens all the time. Women disappear, desperate to leave their lives behind and start over. But is that what really happened to Molly Clarke?

It's fine
Revisado: 03-06-21
A few years ago I listened to Emma in the Night and absolutely loved it, so when I saw this latest novel from Wendy Walker, I kinda just auto-bought it.
The book sets itself up well enough, establishing the back story and family dynamics; Molly and Nic and the rest are interesting enough to warrant emotional reactions to the plot...you know, it's fine. But then things just drag on for a bit. Around the halfway point I was pretty sure I knew how the story would end, and I thought about just skipping to the end to confirm my suspicions. I didn't. I listened through and let the story play out, and I'm not mad about it. Glowing review, I know. The story picks up in the back third, and I was only partially right about the ending.
-1 star because I didn't LOVE it, and -1 star because it let me consider not finishing it. Therese Plummer's rendition was pretty good, save for a few lines that were noticeably too much. I think Emma in the Night is a better story, and I think the reviewers comparing this book to Gone Girl are wrong.

It's not for me
Revisado: 09-19-20
I do this thing when I can't decide what to listen to next--I search for the newest releases narrated by Julia Whelan and pick the first one that sounds like it might be interesting. It's usually a solid strategy since Julia is an A+ narrator and tends get good books to read, and it's led me to many enjoyable discoveries in the past. So that's how I ended up with The Boys' Club in my headphones.
The story starts out well enough, following Alex through the challenges of her new career at a big shot law firm. She's an ambitious, likeable person you want to see succeed. And for me, that good will lasted about the first third of the book. By Thanksgiving, her career had turned her into a decidedly unlikable person, and things just went downhill from there. When she decided to pick up a cocaine habit to fit in with the guys in Mergers and Acquisitions, I was done. Did not finish.
The things she does and experiences are all likely enough, I guess, and I can see the appeal this story might have for many readers. Personally though, it was grueling to be in the head of an insufferable jerk, and I don't need more of that in my life.

Historia
Arthur Dent's accidental association with that wholly remarkable book, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, has not been entirely without incident.Arthur has traveled the length, breadth, and depth of known, and unknown, space. He has stumbled forward and backward through time. He has been blown up, reassembled, cruelly imprisoned, horribly released, and colorfully insulted more than is strictly necessary.

Guide Note
Revisado: 11-08-09
The characters in this sixth volume of the Hitchhiker's trilogy are familiar, and the plot isn't too far from what you might expect. Fans of the original storyline know that Douglas Adams had a knack for taking just the right amount of absurdity and transforming it into a great story. Unfortunately, Colfer's attempt at the same failed. Miserably. It's as if Colfer wrote 250 pages of nonsensical rubbish and then decided to try and weave a Hitchhiker's plot into it.
