Rome had a decent premise and strong character potential. There were steady challenges and growth in the first two books.
This time around Rome decided to hit his protagonists with stupid sticks. This is on top of a meandering, pointless plot that went nowhere. Frankly it was obvious that Rome just stopped caring.
As for Wiggins, please work on the your timing. The listening experience was jerky with endless pauses and stops that were not warranted.
I understand this is a new author and narrator, but there is only so much suffering an audience should be asked to take.

Could have been interesting

Author suffers from the sin of telling, not showing.
What could have been an exciting adventure romp, instead became a slice of life simmer.
It wasn't bad. Just boring. Which is shame because the premise was very interesting.

I am hooked!

This was an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end.
This author just keeps getting better.
3 or 4 of his word choices were questionable, but that is only criticism I have.
This series is exceptional and will keep you entertained & motivated.

Enjoyable

This definitely has 'Legend of the Arch Magus' vibes, but in a good way. Iti s not derivative and carries the story well. The characters are cohesive and all believable given the plot.
I found this quite enjoyable and am looking forward to the next installment.

Please. This is worth it. This is a masterpiece.
Adventure, progression, drama, humor.
Please. We need this guy to keep writing.

Thinly veiled Harlequin romance

If you were looking for the humor and wit of 'Beware of Chicken', or the cumungeonly charm of 'Battle Mage Farmer', this is not it. This is almost offensively saccharinely sweet. It is definitely annoying. This book is what happens when marketing executives try to recreate the success of a popular artist without understanding the craft. We get commercial garbage.
If you like empty romance novels filled with empty characters this is the book for you.

Entertaining, Complex, Mature

No harems, no slavery, no rape fantasies, no racism, no sexism.
Lot's of blood, guns, blades and growth.

I almost did not chose this novel because a review painted the protagonist as an overly sensitive adult emo crybaby.
I am so glad I decided to take a risk. I am a 6', 230lb heterosexual male and all I saw was a well adjusted adult man who was working his but off to hold himself and the community together right after losing everyone he loved.
This novel was short, but the author poured everything into the story. The characters were 3 dimensional, the women where not juvenile fantast constructs and the adventures had real consequences.
I happily give this first novel 5 stars. I wish I could find more adult fantasy like this,

Well spaced plot and excellent character development.
This series is exciting and yet thoughtful.
If you are looking for a bit of fun that won't annoy you because of the MC's stupidity, this is the series for you.

Very satisfying

This is not the greatest book I have read this year. But it is a well written tale, with a steady plot and characters that make sense.
I understand the decisions each person makes and where they are coming from which is far more than I can say for a lot of other work.
There is lot's of adventure, and loss. The protagonist is a bit of a mary-sue, but not overwhelmingly so. He is defeated several times, he even defeats himself through hubris.
I think you will enjoy this book. It is a solid piece of work and long enough to leave you satisfied.
Adventure fantasy with solid litrpg framework.
No harems, racism or slavery or rape fantasies.
