I own over a thousand audiobooks, most of them in the self-help, personal development genre. After a while, most authors all say the same things.

Up until a week ago, I had never heard of Simon Squibb until some of his YouTube videos attracted me. I gave the book a try, because his approach seemed much different. Having also recently listened to "Buy Back Your Time," by Dan Martell, I liked that Dan came from a really hard place. Simon, too, was very young when his father died, and then left home and went off on his own. I really respect authors who didn't just have the win "handed" to them at birth; he had to fight for everything, like most of us attracted to reading these books.

This audiobook has some mindset principles you'll find in other books, and I got the most out of Squibb's real-world examples from his actual attempts to help random people like you and I realize their dreams. What surprised me the most is that they're not all success stories. Often, he put in the work to help people start their dream restaurants, a sort of "once in a lifetime opportunity", only to have them disappear and ghost him.

In chapter 5, in the What Is My Pain section, he says, "Knowing that I like talking to people, and wanted to help people, were important parts of understanding MY dream. But they weren't sufficient on their own. I also needed something that I think is vital to every dream, and the purpose it contains. I needed to tap into my pain."

Chapters like this make this book very real and relatable. Through stories of figuring things out on the street, and enduring times when no one was there to help him, Simon shows that pretty much anyone can make it. His personal story is bundled into a value offer welcoming listeners to join his site (Helpbnk) or (elevatorofdreams.com): a platform for throwing your ideas out there freely to possibly find mentors or people willing to invest. (Sort of like an everyman's version of Shark Tank).

A lot of books offer advice and coaching, but few actually offer you an additional value like Helpbnk in the REAL world.

Overall, a great book. Narration was perfect. It was exactly the right length. Instead of just telling you theory, he offers ACTIONABLE steps, such as "petition people for sponsorship BEFORE you're big."

And he offers a platform to actually pitch your ideas. All in all, a big win for an audiobook.

you're questioning if you should buy this short audiobook when it's about the length of a YouTube video

I hate to spoil it for you, but this short audiobook is nothing but the FIRST chapter of his much longer book, How I Raised Myself From Failure to Success in Selling. Though his full-length audiobook is a bit long, it's WELL worth purchasing and studying. It's one of my favorite books.

Oddly enough, I'm glad I bought this first chapter from that book. Why? Because it's one of the strongest chapters in his entire book, and I find myself replaying this short piece instead of listening to his entire full-length book again and again.

I am new to this industry. This episode was well rpoduced, and best of all described the deeper WHY of investing in trailer parks.

Men's books become predictable. Once I discover the author is from the armed services, I brace to hear a bunch of jock talk about get out of bed, do a bunch of physical exercise, and man up 24 hours a day. This book is none of those things. Not only is it well written, well-narrated, and articulate--it's highly relatable to all men. I will definitely purchase the second book. As a fan of books like Way of Superior Man, No More Mr. Nice Guy, Not Nice, and Models... this book had enough unique content the other books didn't.

Big Osamu Dazai fan. Have read Setting Sun and No Longer Human several times over. I highly recommend both of those audiobooks-and you can't even imagine the same author wrote both books.

In the Flowers of Buffoonery, I tried it a few times, but it has no flow. It starts off jumbled. The reader struggles to find any traction in the story. It has weird interjections from the author where he pretends not to be referencing his real life events, or maybe he admits. Hard to tell.

Probably, this book was a lot more interesting at the time when the author's first suicide attempt was publicized. In comparison to his other books, which are both stellar, this did nothing for me. And I seriously gave it a few tries. Narration was perfect as always, but so what?

Update: Many months later. I still have to say, this book is the best for the art of public speaking. You need no other.

If you're into public speaking, this is an amazing book. Some books, you feel like you only get one or two tidbits. With this book, not only is it well-written, but it literally tells you everything you could ever want to know about public speaking. Acker does a good job of coloring in just enough back story from his life and his coaching business without making it all about him. He does reference his website and coaching business sometimes, but this doesn't bother me. I listen to this book frequently, it's that good. And it's much shorter than Dale Carnegie's book on public speaking.

Perfect narration. Perfect length. Really has a lot of solid gems which anyone in the public speaking space will benefit from. Thanks to being only 4 hours, it's perfect for repeat listens. After listening the first time, I replayed it again immediately. It's a joy to listen to.

Narration is perfect, but all this book really is-a bunch of remixed stuff out of other books. Also, it is repetitive. It's mostly a long drawn out interview with Andrew Carnegie. Personally, because I own Think and Grow Rich, this purchase was a dud for me. It's not a bad book by any means, but it rehashes what you've most likely heard elsewhere.

I first heard about this book on Build A Wealthy Spirit podcast, and it was right up my alley at the right time, because I'll be buying a house within the next month. I love books like this that clock in right around four hours which are just perfect for listening to at work. Or during a commute. 5 hours would have been way too much.

What impressed me, other than it's length, is Nick's background. I prefer books where authors have actually LIVED through their stories and didn't just copy a bunch of ideas somewhere online. I crave this authenticity, and I like that he's thrown a lot of parties, especially in Brooklyn. He also gives anecdotal stories about people in his network and their experiences hosting in Arkansas and other places. This made me feel there was a lot of value added to the experience, almost like handing me his cheat sheets accumulated over many years and a couple of mistakes. For example, you'll keep it in mind to get your shower done with BEFORE the guests arrive-not AFTER!

He uses a term, "Occupational diversity," meaning he invites people from different industries. I've written this down and will keep it in mind when I set up my next party. I tend to just cater to my friends or people in my industry; but he gave me the idea to branch out and PURPOSELY attract some new blood from other circles.

The best way to approach this book is as a buffet of knowledge. Because I've hosted parties before, I knew some of it already. there were a few chapters such as deciding what food to offer and how to attach notes to doors to lead your guests to bathrooms, etc. which are common sense. I found a lot of value in the chapters about how to post invite pages and the best methods for following up with RSVPs and offering guest profiles. Also the section on timing everything just right and addressing the awkward first twenty minutes. He says, "I'll help you avoid repeating the mistakes I had to learn the hard way."

Yep, I'll borrow his mistakes all day. This is what I like about the book.

As far as the narration, it's perfect. I listened at 1.40x speed, and his voice is crisp and clear; this is a quality production not just in the audio, but in his writing and presentation of his material. You can't listen to this book without picking up a few tricks-so I highly recommend it. Like me, you'll probably tweak them to suit your own party's style. But is the prefect foundation, delivered in a timely manner.
