Absolutely Horrible
Revisado: 07-20-22
I don't know which was worse, the grammar school storyline or the narrator. The storyline was just bad, but the narration by Travis Baldree just made it all the worse. Please don't waste your time with this debacle.

When I was growing up I always had a fascination with the gods of every culture. From the Celtic Scathach to the Norse god of thunder Thor to ancient Egypt and the amazing lengths people went to in trying to keep deities like Anubis happy. In this guide, we introduce the main gods from Norse Mythology along with their interpretations in modern-day entertainment.

Not what you'd expect
Revisado: 07-16-20
So if you are looking for the actual stories of the Norse gods, this isn't the book for you. If you want to know about the fictional characters in video games, comics, and movies then you might like this.
Each chapter is extremely....to the point of annoying...repetitive. Saying the same thing over and over.
The book was so bad that I didn't even finish it. The only good part was the narration. With that being said, I was given this book free of charge and have chosen to leave an unbiased review.

Do you know that the one-eyed Odin was alcoholic? Or that Loki gave birth to an eight-legged horse? Norse Mythology is complicated, unpredictable, and wonderful. All the stories tell of bravery and strength, loyalty amongst friends and family, and the pursuit of wisdom over power.

Not very accurate
Revisado: 11-23-19
This is a very mediocre rendition of the Norse tales. The author, Lopez, left out so much detail and other tales. There are much better books available about the Norse Gods and their tales.
The best part of this book was the narration. Hamilton did an excellent job making this book bearable.

It's okay
Revisado: 10-13-19
The storyline and content itself was okay. If you're a fan of Anglo Saxon history, then you'll enjoy it. My only issue was the narration. Unfortunately the narrator sounds like Jeffrey from Game of Throwns. He even has that whiney smugness in the tone of his voice.
Overall the book was good and I recommend it.

Found Wanting
Revisado: 10-08-19
Let me start off by saying that I truly enjoy this series. The storyline is great. The narration is superb.
My issue is with the lack of research of the Norse Gods and Goddesses. Ran is the Goddess of the sea and should therefore be referred to as such. The author on multiple occasions referred to Ran as a male. Next, one of the characters die of an illness during the return trip home. The author writes that a sword was placed in the dying man's hand so that he will be welcomed in Valhalla. Well that's not how it works. This character would have ended up in Helhiem, which is where those that die from illness, old age, and less than courageous deaths end up. At another point in the book the author refers to Odin as beating on his anvil with his hammer. What in Midgard are you talking about? Thor was is the only God wield a hammer, and he was not a blacksmith. Lastly the author says something about Odin making it rain. Once again WTF....Thor is considered to be the God of thunder. SMDH.
If you're going to weave the Gods into your storyline, do so with some respect and knowledge.
Other than that, I highly recommend this book and the rest of the series.

Loosing your head over the mental health industry
Revisado: 09-24-19
Jonathan Jaye knocks it out of the park. For those of you who are familiar with Jonathan's previous books, this is a whole new twist. He takes his experiences in the mental health industry and uses it to create an intriguing and suspenseful murder mystery with just a touch of dark humor that we have come to enjoy from his previous work.
Jonathan brings to light the shit show of the mental health industry and the lack of support for peer counseling. Throw in a crazy neighbor who loses her head, a murder of a friend, a pinch of Columbo, and wash it all down with a few bong hits and a beer or two and you get the setting for this story.
Jonathan if you are reading this review, brother I absolutely enjoyed it!

Long live Beobrand Half-hand!
Revisado: 08-06-19
The only disappointing thing about this book is that it had to come to an end. 😔
From day one I have been a huge fan of Matthew Harffy's work. He always does his research and uses it to suck you into his story. I can't wait to see what's next for Beobrand.
As always Barnaby Edwards did an outstanding job in narrating the story. His narration brings life to the characters of the book.

Historia
The year is 950 AD and the story starts in the town of Birka on an island in the great lake which covers a vast area inland of what is today Stockholm. It was a wealthy town at the center of an international trading network where merchants from as far afield as Turkey, Russia and Ireland met to buy, sell and barter. The wealth of the island also attracted unwelcome visitors and frequently the Birka warriors had to defend their homes and families against gangs of Viking raiders.

Don't judge a book by it's cover.
Revisado: 07-26-19
I requested this book because I was really looking forward to a new viking saga. Unfortunately that's not what I got. Honestly, the best part of this book is the cover illustration. So where to start...
1. The author did very little research (in my humble opinion) before writing this. You may ask why I say this? Well lets take a look at some things. The author refers to the spiritual leader as "Shaman." However, the correct name or word for such an individual is "Gothi." Next, when the author is describing the statue of Odin, he describes the All-father as having two eyes that seem to follow you. Odin has only one eye. He removed his other eye as payment to drink from Mímir's well to gain knowledge.
The author's description of the clothing was inaccurate. Referring to tunics as coats and or shirts. The overall characteristics and personalities of the characters are also off for that time period. Just poorly thought through with the storyline. The list goes on and on.
2. I have never been a fan of the author being the narrator as well. The way the narration makes the "Shaman" sound is like that of a spooky story told around a campfire with a group of grammar school kids.
This book could have had a lot of potential. With a little more research into the subject matter. I guess this would be alright as a children's book (as long as you don't care about the inaccuracies). By children, I mean 5-8 years of age. It is definitely not a serious viking saga.

This book was full PD great information for all things Norse. However, the narration was absolutely horrid. Teague Dean constantly over emphasizes everything. Almost like he's trying too hard. I finished the book only because PD the information it provided.
