Historia
Separated by 10 years, 3,000 miles, and the unrelenting stresses of adulthood, best friends Janet and Serena plan a 40th birthday girls’ trip to reconnect. But after a massive crash, they’re the only survivors to wash ashore on an uncharted Caribbean Island. Armed with only the clothes on their backs and zero survival skills, they fight to overcome hunger, thirst, deadly wildlife—and most terrifyingly—decades of accrued resentment. Can they find their way home, or will they kill each other first?

Historia
Elwood Blues (aka Dan Aykroyd) is on another mission—to tell the full story of how two young actors went from blues lovers to Blues Brothers. In this fascinating audio documentary Aykroyd “gets the band back together”, taking listeners on a road trip through time—from late nights in the early days with John Belushi at Dan’s speakeasy in Toronto, to working with blues legends Aretha Franklin, James Brown, and Ray Charles on The Blues Brothers movie, through the founding of House of Blues, the Blues Brothers 2000 sequel, and beyond.

I learned a lot
Revisado: 07-28-24
I’m from Chicago and knew of the Blues Brothers at a young age. It’s so interesting to hear the love that Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi had for the music. Good music is so universal and that comes across in this story. That foundational African American Delta Blues gave life to people across race. I loved learning about their commitment to not appropriate but to use their platform to honor those that inspired them and how that platform reinvigorated so many careers. This is indeed a version of what being an Ally or Accomplice for diversity and humanity looks like.

Hey you guys, it’s Leslie. I’m excited to share my story with you. Now, I’m gonna be honest: Some of the details might be vague because a b*tch is fifty-five and she’s smoked a ton of weed. But while bits might be a touch hazy, I can promise you the underlying truth is REAL.

Loved this book!
Revisado: 07-28-24
Thank you Leslie for your vulnerability and candor! As a Black woman reading this, it hit on so many things that I can relate too and I see it as a book that is universally important for all sorts of folks to engage. The journey, resilience and encouragement for people to love each other and their families rang out. Also, the book has me telling people that I know in comedy to really listen to your book because the way you talk about the craft and the industry are noteworthy.

Revisado: 07-28-24
This book was an ultimate conclusion to the journey set forth by the first two books. At first I missed the previous actor reading but I love Cynthia Erivo so I got in the groove swiftly. The ups and downs take you on a ride.

Historia
With a sensibility that recalls her beloved screen characters, including Yvette, Queenie, Shug, and the iconic Cookie from Empire, yet is all Taraji, the screen actress writes of her families - the one she was born into and the one she created. She shares stories of her father, a Vietnam vet who was bowed but never broken by life's challenges, and of her mother, who survived violence both in the home and on DC's volatile streets. Here, too, she opens up about her experiences as a single mother.
