Historia
In Sweden there is a kind of decluttering called döstädning, dö meaning "death" and städning meaning "cleaning." This surprising and invigorating process of clearing out unnecessary belongings can be undertaken at any age or life stage but should be done sooner rather than later, before others have to do it for you. In The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning, artist Margareta Magnusson, with Scandinavian humor and wisdom, instructs listeners to embrace minimalism.

A compassionate explanation of the purpose of death cleaning
Revisado: 08-08-24
This is a lovely overview of the principles of and reasons for doing your own death cleaning - decluttering your own possessions to make life simpler for those you leave behind.
I especially appreciated the concept of getting rid of things that aren’t important or valuable so that your family can easily identify what IS important or valuable.
The performance is calm and calming.

Historia
In Fluke, myth-shattering social scientist Brian Klaas takes a deep-dive into the phenomenon of random chance and the chaos it can sow, taking aim at most people’s neat and tidy version of reality. The book’s argument is that we willfully ignore a bewildering truth: but for a few small changes, our lives—and our societies—could be radically different.

Historia
In this groundbreaking work, evolutionary biologist Jared Diamond stunningly dismantles racially based theories of human history by revealing the environmental factors actually responsible for history's broadest patterns. It is a story that spans 13,000 years of human history, beginning when Stone Age hunter-gatherers constituted the entire human population. Guns, Germs, and Steel is a world history that really is a history of all the world's peoples, a unified narrative of human life.

A well-reasoned theory on why certain cultures developed more complex societies than others . Commenters call it racist missed the point. It is anything but.

Excellent little mystery
Revisado: 02-19-23
I enjoyed this book a great deal more than I expected to. Well-written, funny, not too gory or scary. A delightful little cozy mystery populated with interesting characters and lots of puppies and kittens. ;-)

Historia
Ascending to the leadership role of US Attorney for the Southern District, which includes Manhattan and several counties to the north, is a capstone to any legal career: it entails guiding a team of the best lawyers in America in selecting and winning cases that often have global import. Geoffrey Berman was honored to be tapped for the job by Donald Trump in 2018. The manner in which Trump had dispatched his predecessor Preet Bharara was troubling, but the institution was fabled for its independence. Surely he could manage.

Interesting Insight
Revisado: 10-02-22
This book about the author’s stint as US Attorney for the SDNY gives some insider information regarding a corrupt administration and the inexcusable conduct of Bill Barr during his second tenure as USAG.
The author is a bit self-serving, but he’s a lawyer and I don’t think they can help being so.

But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office.

Great read (or listen). This story made me snort, chuckle, chortle, and LOL (something the heroine would hate!).
Well-written and the first of its kind for me, at least. I highly recommend.

Lovely
Revisado: 04-18-17
A proper novel, where the good end happily and bad end unhappily... mostly.
I hate to try new authors without a really good reference from someone I trust, and I don't trust very many people at all when it comes to new authors. So I was pleasantly surprised to find this book well-written, neither overly libertine nor overtly moralistic. The main character is a proper lady of her time, but one harder in herself than others, which I always admire.
