Fascinating to learn about the elephants
Revisado: 05-09-25
Fascinating account of Billy Williams, an English man who worked for the English forestry service in Burma through the 1900's. I found the accounts and stories about the elephants to be most interesting. They are fascinating animals and very intelligent.
I liked the narrator for this story.

So fun and enjoyable to listen to. I grew up in the 60s and 70's so the whole cold war thing is pretty interesting as a backdrop for this accidental spy story.

Fascinating story told well
Revisado: 11-27-24
This was a really fun story. It is a historical fiction retelling of the trip of 2 giraffes across the United States to the San Diego zoo in 1938. I am not really sure what is truth and what is fiction but I do know the part about the giraffes is true.
The characters, including the giraffes, were quite endearing.
Great narrator.

As the new dragon keeper in the hidden valley of Ormdale, Edith expects her first dragon mating season to involve venomous bites and amorous wyverns. She doesn't expect to find herself growing closer to an inconveniently appealing suitor next door, or to stumble upon a dragon poacher lurking in the outbuildings, or to uncover a family scandal in the Abbey.

Historia
In this illuminating and deeply moving memoir, a former American military intelligence officer goes beyond traditional Cold War espionage tales to tell the true story of her family - of five women separated by the Iron Curtain for more than 40 years and their miraculous reunion after the fall of the Berlin Wall. A personal look at a tenuous era that divided a city and a nation and continues to haunt us, Forty Autumns is an intimate and beautifully written story of courage, resilience, and love.

Fascinating memoir set in East Germany
Revisado: 09-16-24
This was a fascinating memoir of a family who lived through the forty years of the Berlin Wall and the division on Germany into East and West. The writer and story teller is the daughter of a young woman who fled to the West just before her 18th birthday and lived her life apart from her East German Family. I was born the year that the wall went up and remember hearing different things as I grew up. It was interesting to hear it all put together in one book as it traced the world events through this time period.
I listened to the audio book and the narrator was excellent.

Another excellent historical fiction
Revisado: 03-20-24
Another excellent historical fiction novel by Katherine Reay. This one is based in Soviet Russia covering the 50's to the 80s'. It was an interesting time period to read more about.
The author goes back and forth between two women, Anya and Ingrid. I found this confusing at points, because I was listening and not reading the story. But in time it made much more sense and came together. So this was not a problem that lasted.
The narrator was excellent.
I look forward to more novels to come from Ms. Reay.

Very well told story
Revisado: 12-30-23
This is a wonderful children's story that can also appeal to adults. I loved the story of how Jack rescued his stuffed pig. Rowling works off the legend that both animals and toys can talk on Christmas Eve. It reminds me some of the Velveteen Rabbit.
Might be a bit scary for young kids, but it does all come out right in the end.
The voice casting was excellent.

Historia
In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could?

Revisado: 06-05-23
Excellent testimony from Jackie Hill Perry. She tells her story of how God freed her from homosexuality and other sin and saved her. Jackie is also a poet so some of her language is really beautiful to read and listen to. I liked that she read her own book.
I also really appreciated her last section of resources for those who struggle with same sex attraction and those who minister to them. She has a wholesome and comprehensive view of God's grace and salvation.
