Long time fan of Carr. This title delivers!

As with his previous historical mystery novels the story is rich in intrigue and Carr particular brand of crime solving conjecture. This one , based in more current times, delivers the same chunk of suspense his other delightful titles have provided. The book at times seeming so layered and so long to be too convoluted, yet as it built towards the resolution the story too short and highly charged with myriad emotions. I didn't enjoy the fact that his new characters practiced the same investigative procedures as the previous novels, but grew to love it as the book fell into its narrative stride. I began to process the book and it's mysteries with the characters. I found that as the book began to spiral towards conclusion I was completely invested, both emotionally and intellectually. Cheers Carr this was a welcome addition to my library, thank you!

What the what??...that was awesome!

It is Hilarious! Read it. I am now going to go read more books by Correia. Baldwin makes it an experience and the story is so funny I laughed out loud while food shopping... I looked insane... It's so good.

Although I surmised the climactic plot developments well before their reveal, I find this character's voice and actions enthralling. I have loved these stories for their richly developed characters and the endearing love story told throughout the series.

I am sad to see this character's journey end but am thankful to have been entertained, horrified, and elated by his tragedies and triumphs.

This story like the others delivers a range of emotions to the reader and Odd's unique view of the world a wonderful way to hear it. I did work out the plot, which caused some frustration, but didn't spoil the climax that had me crying. Now...I think, I shall go back and start all over again. Many thanks for a story well told.

builds to a fantastic finish

with enough twists to keep you guessing and plenty of characters to both love and hate. I enjoyed this on so many levels. A great story with great characters, and phenomenal finish, what more does one need

I am always impressed by Gregory Maguire, at his ability to take something so familiar and make a new different and intriguing.this is another great success for him at a wonderful opportunity for us as readers to enjoy a story we've heard for years.the only things that was I think unnecessary, what's the use of several different readers for the different sections.I didn't think it added anything

Fairy tale!!! for adults

This story has a unique speech and rhythm that lends itself to the fairy tale feel. Our heroes are archetypes without being stereotypes, the Princess a strong female beautiful in heart if not in face, and the Prince a beast with a Nobel heart. The story is a tale about good triumphing over evil and the strength of passion and love that grows between an unlikely pair....all in all an enjoyable listen. happy listening
