Historia
The first 40 days after the birth of a child offer an essential and fleeting period of rest and recovery for the new mother. Based on author Heng Ou's own postpartum experience with zuo yuezi, a set period of “confinement”, in which a woman remains at home focusing on healing and bonding with her baby, The First Forty Days revives the lost art of caring for the mother after birth.

Excited to try the method and recipes
Revisado: 08-21-22
I found this book to be realistic and down to earth. I’ve read through other books or parts of books with a similar message but this one feels the most applicable to the modern western woman. The funniest part of finishing this book is that before I listened, I was in no way shape or form considering saving my placenta to eat it. After the section about the benefits of the placenta and looking at the recipes for placenta smoothies I think I’m going to give it a try! Can help can’t hurt right? I also like how she has general guidelines for the first 40 days but that it’s more flexible than other books I’ve read. The narrator does a good job.

A Fun Listen
Revisado: 07-05-22
Dr. Obuobi has done a great job portraying the love life of an American medical student. It was very fun to listen to, even if sometimes it threw me back to those uncomfortable medical student days. I loved the inclusivity of the book as well- it felt like real life, from immigrant families to LGTBQA+. The characters are complex and real. The narrator does an amazing job. Enjoy, you will be happy you did! I follow the author on social media and she has some great drawings and character summaries on her IG account. I felt like I could see this book becoming a great Anime movie! But for real, I just want to see Ricky’s paintings ;)

Historia
The foundation of Hebrew and Jewish religion, thought, law, and society is the Torah - the parchment scroll containing the text of the Five Books of Moses that is located in every synagogue. This accessible guide explains the Torah in clear language, even to those who were not raised in the Jewish religious tradition. Christians who want to know more about the Jewish roots of Christianity need to understand the Torah, as do followers of Islamic tradition and those interested in the roots of Abrahamic faiths.

Great resource!
Revisado: 09-04-21
I started studying Kabbalah and needed some general understanding of the Torah for my studies. This was just what I needed. I first listened to Kabbalah for Dummies which was also very helpful. I enjoyed the narration in Kabbalah for Dummies a little more, but overall the performance here isn’t too bad once you get used to it. Overall, if you are a Torah and or Bible newbie, I recommend this book.

Historia
Izumi Tanaka has never really felt like she fit in - it isn’t easy being Japanese American in her small, mostly White, northern California town. Raised by a single mother, it’s always been Izumi - or Izzy, because “it’s easier this way” - and her mom against the world. But then Izumi discovers a clue to her previously unknown father’s identity...and he’s none other than the Crown Prince of Japan. Which means outspoken, irreverent Izzy is literally a princess.

A great coming of age YA novel
Revisado: 07-05-21
I really enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator was amazing. It was light and also meaningful. It was also a lot of fun to listen to. I really enjoyed the main character and the relationships she had with the various characters in the book. The ending was also super sweet. I look forward to the next book!

Nikki lives in cosmopolitan West London, where she tends bar at the local pub. The daughter of Indian immigrants, she's spent most of her 20-odd years distancing herself from the traditional Sikh community of her childhood, preferring a more independent (that is, Western) life. Historia
When a banished witch falls in love with the legendary trickster Loki, she risks the wrath of the gods in this moving, subversive debut novel that reimagines Norse mythology. Angrboda’s story begins where most witches' tales end: with a burning. A punishment from Odin for refusing to provide him with knowledge of the future, the fire leaves Angrboda injured and powerless, and she flees into the farthest reaches of a remote forest. There she is found by a man who reveals himself to be Loki, and her initial distrust of him transforms into a deep and abiding love.

If you loved Circe by M. Miller, you will love this book
Revisado: 02-26-21
I just finished listening to this book and it was really amazing. I didn’t know a lot about Nordic mythology before, so it was a nice lesson as well as story. I fell in love with how the author brings the characters to life and the end is PERFECT and also epic. It has a similar flavor to Circe by Madeline Miller, a book I also enjoyed....although I must say, the ending of this book is far more epic ;)
It took me a while to get into the narration of this book but by the end I got used to it and ended up liking it. There were a few things that felt a bit off with the narrators voice and the text in the first 3rd of the book, but I stopped noticing it by the middle/end. It is a lovely story. I recommend it.
