Unpredictable--and about those political comments

I found this book so gripping and enjoyed the format. I rarely leave a review, but I really wanted to address the reviewers who mentioned policital aspects to the storyline. Did they read a different book? From what they said, I expected it to be a strong theme. Instead, some things are mentioned in passing, more as a touchstone to the time we were "visiting." Mentioning current events seems like a pretty reasonable addition to a time travel book. The fixation on it in reviews is super weird.

What am I missing?

While there were some little shining momements, they weren't enough to get me through this book. The story was disconnected and the author's narration among the worst I've tried to listen to.

Good story, hard to listen to

I don't care for background music and sound effects, and this reader was a little slow for my taste. Both issues improved when I listened at 1.25 speed. Story was good though slightly predictable.
