Historia
Episode Thirteen takes them to every ghost hunter's holy grail: the Paranormal Research Foundation. This brooding, derelict mansion holds secrets and clues about bizarre experiments that took place there in the 1970s. It's also famously haunted, and the team hopes their scientific techniques and high tech gear will prove it. But as the house begins to reveal itself to them, proof of an afterlife might not be everything Matt dreamed of.

Three Stars is generous
Revisado: 03-13-25
Pros: The plot was decent in parts.
Cons: The ending was a total cop out, the ridiculous sound effects made it nearly unlistenable, way too many voice actors (all the men sounded virtually exactly the same. Should've just had one guy do it), Virtually ZERO character development.

WAAAAAAAAAY too religious.
Revisado: 11-07-24
I understand the word faith is in the title, but this book is disingenuous in the amount of proselytizing and evangelizing done by using her father's story is absurd.

MASSIVE Waste of time.
Revisado: 10-03-24
this book could have been half as long and there would still be items left to cut. I felt like I was being waterboarded with unnecessary information that didn't advance the plot. I'm just glad that I finished it.

Too many threads for my brain to track.
Revisado: 06-30-24
I'm not going to lie, this one was really hard for me to get through. Maybe it was just trying to keep up with 3 books' worth of characters and their respective threads and backstories. I had to go back a few times for things I missed. I definitely liked it, but I was hoping to not still be confused by the end of the trilogy. Unfortunately, I am still quite confused.

Ugh.
Revisado: 12-03-22
I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did. I have enjoyed most of Nick Offerman’s writing in the past, But parts of this book annoyed me for a couple of reasons that I will list.
For some reason in this book, Offerman is determined to use every antiquated ten dollar word that exists. Honestly, for a while it felt like I was reading Walt Whitman. I don't mind expansive word choice, but after a while it began to seem like he was deliberately using old-fashioned words and sentence structure.
Offerman’s insistence in this book to appear as an everyman is rather hard to swallow when he details how out-of-touch he and his wife are with how the rest of the country is/was going through the COVID pandemic. As someone who works in the medical field and was in countless COVID units throughout my area, it is kind of a sore subject, even though he and I share similar thoughts on how to best survive the pandemic.
I never thought I’d say this about him as a leftist myself, but in this book, he comes off as what those on the political right would call “Hollywood Liberal Elite.” I hate that I felt that about one of my favorite actors and humorists, but it just really rubbed me the wrong way. I think it was the description about how he and his wife just bought a massive airstream trailer and went around the country “glamping” while people were dying of COVID, losing their jobs, and forced to shelter in place. It was obnoxiously insensitive.
I understand that overall, Nick and Megan are probably good people who mean well and care about others, but it just seems like neither Nick nor the editors read the room before dedicating so much of this book to a glamorous COVID vacation.
Additionally, the epilogue gets awfully preachy and holier-than-thou. I agree with his overall message, but there is too much scolding the reader.
It is not without bright spots (his writing about his trip to Racy Ghyll was particularly good), but overall I didn’t really care for it. Hopefully his next book is more like his earlier writing.

When one of the students in the study is found murdered in the psychology building, a dangerous game of cat and mouse begins, and Chloe goes from hunter to prey.

Gage Chandler is descended from kings. That’s what his mother always told him. Years later, he is a true crime writer, with one grisly success—and a movie adaptation—to his name, along with a series of subsequent less notable efforts. But now he is being offered the chance for the big break: to move into the house where a pair of briefly notorious murders occurred, apparently the work of disaffected teens during the Satanic Panic of the 1980s.

The story was impossible to follow and I never knew what the hell was going on. It read like someone found a notebook full of random essays and just published it and called it a book. Three stars is generous in my opinion. Just a baffling lack of structure.

Historia
Ike Randolph has been out of jail for fifteen years, with not so much as a speeding ticket in all that time. But a Black man with cops at the door knows to be afraid. The last thing he expects to hear is that his son Isiah has been murdered, along with Isiah’s white husband, Derek. Ike had never fully accepted his son but is devastated by his loss. Derek’s father Buddy Lee was almost as ashamed of Derek for being gay as Derek was ashamed his father was a criminal. Buddy Lee still has contacts in the underworld, though, and he wants to know who killed his boy.

Historia
Eric disappeared when he was three years old. Ben looked away for only a second at the grocery store, but that was all it took. His brother was gone. Vanished right into the sticky air of the Florida Panhandle. They say you've got only a couple days to find a missing person. Forty-eight hours to conduct searches, knock on doors, and talk to witnesses. Two days to tear the world apart if there's any chance of putting yours back together. That's your window. That window closed five years ago, leaving Ben's life in ruins.

Terrible. Don't waste your time.
Revisado: 03-24-21
I can't believe I wasted my time on this book. The author could have cut hundreds of pages (several hours) from this book, but insisted on wasting time including dozens of red herrings. On top of that, he seemed determined to give it the most frustratingly out-of-left-field ending that left me determined to never read anything he's written again.
