Historia
The Oracle has Seen the end of Civilization, and the end of the Haosa, too. Reactions to this are—mixed. On the one hand, foresight is a notoriously erratic Gift. On the other, can Civilization—or the Haosa—afford to assume that the prophecy is an error? And if the Oracle has Seen truly—is it possible to alter the future?

Revisado: 05-02-25
Liadan Universe novels are not easily characterized. They swing between interstellar war, weird science (electron replacement drive!?!) romance, and space opera. While this one was a little more mystical than others I quite enjoyed the story arc and was glad to see Padi come into her own. I really appreciate that Sharon (& Steve) have kept the different story lines so, well, different, while the universe itself is so consistent. I've been reading since the beginning, and I have never been bored. Real talent and imagination. This isn't the story to begin your Liadan journey, but you don't have to start at the beginning, 25 or so novels ago, just at the start of this arc will do (I think it's Leap, Dance, Bow and maybe Alliance?), although you may miss some subtleties as Padi's story isn't as separate from the other story lines as Theo's was. (See how I tried to suck you in there by mentioning Theo? Really, this series has lots of great characters!)
A short, dare I say political, note. I've always appreciated that Lee & Miller blur gender roles, using he/she interchangeably for unknow persons instead of defaulting to the cultural norm of 'he' for any generic other person, and I even more appreciate that the jobs and roles are equally often assigned to any gender seemingly at random: the mechanic isn't always a man for example. This book has gone a step further by having a main character who's gender is never assigned or assumed. It's careful and subtle and you might not even notice for a while. Makes you more aware of the many assumption tied to gender in our culture, and how hard it is to value another person for the essence of themselves, without that bias. Well done!
Lastly, I don't love Eileen Stevens as a narrator, but that's personal preference and she did a good job with this book.

what fun!!!
Revisado: 05-02-25
I like these newer books; less angst, more fun. Some think they're frothy, and I admit this is bordering on ridiculous, but it just made me smile. Also kept a nice pace and was unpredictable. Go Christina!!! Go Gothic!

For Sewanee Chester, being an audiobook narrator is a long way from her old dreams, but the days of being a star on film sets are long behind her. She’s found success and satisfaction from the inside of a sound booth and it allows her to care for her beloved, ailing grandmother. But not that painful angst just nearly real life, it was so over the top and real at the same time. Thanks Julia (btw my favorite narrator strikes again!)

Historia
When Sonya MacTavish inherits the huge Victorian mansion on the coast of Maine, she has no idea that the house is haunted. The footsteps she hears at night, the doors slamming, the music playing, are not figments of her imagination. In her dreams she sees glimpses of the past. In the present she finds portraits of brides. And when she has visions of an antique mirror, she is drawn to it, sensing it holds dark family secrets.

Meh
Revisado: 12-05-24
I wanted to love it, but I was uncertain from 1/2 way through book1. You can see where it's going, which isn't a problem for me with Nora's books normally, but it's taking it's own sweet time getting there. She's doing the list thing again and the book seems like it's a broken record. A couple of times I had to back track to make sure I hadn't lost my place and listened to the same mirror episode over again. Also, too much angst for Nora with no resolution in sight for those trapped in the past. I want to whine more, but that would contain spoilers...
And, Maybe I am just expecting Nora to stick to her tried and true format - I know, not fair, but I wanted 3 strong love stories and the two (sort of) so far are just a bit pedestrian.
I'll still read the third in hopes of something amazing.

Historia
Mary Alice Brannigan doesn’t believe in the supernatural. Nor does she expect to find that Dreamland, the decaying amusement park she’s been hired to restore, is a prison for the five Untouchables, the most powerful demons in the history of the world. Plus, there’s a guy she’s falling hard for, and there’s something about him that’s not quite right.

Historia
With origins in the Old Universe, the malevolent, acquisitive intelligence of Tinsori Light sought to infect others with itself and send those agents out into the wide new universe to infect even more. For centuries, two heroes stood between Tinsori Light and the vulnerable universe—Light Keepers Jen Sin yos'Phelium and Lorith of the Sanderat. Just when it seemed that they—merely human—must fail, Tinsori Light, enfeebled by aged systems, succumbed to the stress of a unique spatial event—and died, leaving the station a shell. Luckily, the light keepers have back-up.

What a saga!!!!!
Revisado: 12-02-24
Great episode in the on-going saga of the new universe and Clan Korval. Some story lines coming to a close, new directions opening. I love the style, Sharon Lee and Steve Miller make their characters sound so interesting. They do a great job conveying complex cultural differences simply. SO AUDIBLE - WHERE IS RIBBON DANCE? I know this series isn't a best seller - but it has a faithful following.... With a little push (How about a deal of the day for Agent of Change?) you could really up the numbers.

This must be the third time I’ve listened over the years after reading a couple of times as well. The feel of this sage seeps into you and the subtleties of the language aren’t easy to describe, but they convey so much feeling and meaning. You really need to start this story arc with Agent of Change. But Lee and Miller have once again spun a complexity that sucks you in. I care about these people and what a space opera…

Historia
My dog once took a bullet that was intended for me. A bullet that ripped through his chest, narrowly missing his heart, and exited through his shoulder blade. This left him unconscious on the floor of my home. Amazingly, this bullet did not kill him. Ten years ago, I adopted Blue after I broke up with my boyfriend one hot, early summer night with the windows open and the neighborhood listening. The next morning I went straight to the pound in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Articles on buying your first dog tell you never to buy a dog on impulse.

Laugh and cry
Revisado: 10-18-24
I don’t know where to start! This book is on the one hand full of totally ridiculous, coincidences, contrived plot lines, snarky people, pretty good sex (hot!), funny dogs, beautiful scenery, everything that Christina does to make her books fun and interesting. I was going to have another hand, but I think that just sums it up. I love this book.
