A complicated and lovely story
Revisado: 04-22-25
It can be a bit confusing, but the author keep weaving in stories that brought me closer to the characters and I didn’t want to let go in the end

Long but worth it
Revisado: 04-22-25
Loved the story. It is a bromance though, and until the third book, the women characters- are there- but they are so absent that the few times they say something it’s a surprise! It’s like- oh I thought you left the scene! Like a loonnnggg time ago! So little attention is given to them. That’s my only real complaint. That this world seems to be made up of mostly men. With maybe a handful of women! That hang out but barely talk! Oh yeah- and the second book is a little bit of a drag

Historia
Hugo and Nebula Award finalist Robin Hobb crafts intricate fantasy tales featuring larger-than-life characters and exotic landscapes. Nevare Burvelle survives the King’s Cavalla Academy—where nepotism and corruption reign—to become a soldier in the Gernian king’s army. As he and his fellow soldiers are thrust onto the front lines of the king’s brutal territorial expansion campaign, they struggle against the Plainspeople—forest-dwellers who possess a powerful magic long dismissed by the Gernians.

Story was good but dragged a little. I felt like I was experiencing every day of this student’s life while in an academy. Down to the hour!!! But, I do look forward to the next book. I like the ideas and the characters are well made.

Historia
Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

Exciting male dialog, story typical
Revisado: 12-06-24
So I knew what I was getting into, romancy, and it had some hot dialog, especially from the guy. I listened to the whole book, so it carried me through. I seek out female writers who can write a strong female lead. But for some reason this writer made the female lead annoyingly catty on the other strong females, and besties with all the dudes. It’s like the female lead can only hate on a female. Also, any gay interaction from the males makes them “evil.” Why do all the evil male characters have to be gay? Why are they the only gay ones? Also, the main female’s dialog is “sassy” which is non stop, which is exhausting to listen to, and if that was a real person, would be irritating as f. I think the writer thinks this makes a strong female lead. The whole story kinda made me wonder if a guy wrote it. All the women so young hot and horny, all the men the same. Where are all the kids and the old wrinkly people? Oh yeah, they’re the zombies. So I guess this is a typical story line from a romancy. I am hoping the female writer gets better at creating strong female leads that can interact with other strong females- like in real life. And that queer characters are “good” like in real life. Fantasy is inspired by real life after all. It helps me relate. I look forward to the second book, but I am wary about the story.

Annoying story
Revisado: 06-18-24
Don’t read this. I forced 1/2 hour down my ears because the genesis story in the preview sounded good. Past that is inner and outer dialogue that is overly flippant, with unnecessary vulgar language, which I suspect the author thought was tough sounding for her main female character. I seek strong female characters in fantasy, and already, barely into the story, I feel like I’m listening to a bratty spoiled 13 year old trying really hard to be tough to a bunch of older boys. I miss the money I spent on the credit.

Great read
Revisado: 06-11-24
The character development was nice. Sometimes I feel like the emotional responses of the characters are too subdued. The feelings of vengeance and hate are strong, but the feelings of happiness and loss are barely registered. The main characters don’t show fear, but the female characters do.

Hooked

Yes there are sex scenes, but they really aren’t that bad or distracting to the plot. There is some predictable romance. But really the plot is great and I love the character growth. I couldn’t put it down.
