Fantastic narrator
Revisado: 08-05-24
Great story teller. This is the 6th book in the Cork O’Connel series and although good, it’s my least favorite and I think it’s because it was away from his home and the Indian Reservation.
The book is very well written and the characters well defined.
Cork is running/hiding from a contract out on his life. Obviously he makes it because the series continues. I don’t like writing reviews so this is the end.

Got me!
Revisado: 12-15-23
First of all love the author. He keeps me interested all the time. The characters were well developed.
This doesn’t pick up where the last book ends but is the beginning of the Ursulina story itself.
Lots of twists and turns and I never really understood who the real villain was until almost the end of the story.
A really good book. You won’t see it coming and then it’ll be too late.

This isn’t my cup of tea but overall it was well written and the narration was very good. It’s too gruesome for my taste.

Historia
There's an underground black market for arcane things. Akin to the trade in rhino horns or tiger bones, this network traffics in remains of gryphons, faeries, goblins, and other fantastic creatures. When her fiance Vince goes missing, Angela Gough, an American criminology student, discovers he was a part of this secretive trade. It's a big-money business-shadowy, brutal, and sometimes fatal. As the trail leads her deeper into London's dark side, she crosses paths with a crime lord whose life is dedicated to collecting such relics.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Worth a Second Listen
Revisado: 07-31-22
I could listen to her writing all day. It’s so poetic. I will definitely listen to it again and will see the movie next week. Now about the book.
The characters are very well developed. Especially Kia and those closest to her.
The story jumps back and forth between time periods.
It’s about a little girl that grows up alone in a marsh. She doesn’t read or write or go to school. She’s befriended by an old friend of her brothers who teaches her to read and she falls in love with him but he leaves her.
She falls in love with another boy and he also leaves her when he marries another. He mysteriously ends up dead and she is charged with his murder.
Did she do it or not? You need to read the book to find out. In my opinion you will really enjoy this book.

Historia
Erin Coleridge's used bookstore in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire, England, is a meeting place for the villagers and, in particular, for the local Jane Austen Society. At the Society's monthly meeting, matters come to a head between the old guard and its young turks. After the meeting breaks for tea, persuasion gives way to murder with extreme prejudice when president Sylvia Pemberthy falls dead to the floor. Poisoned? Presumably, but by whom? And was Sylvia the only target?

Love Story and Murder Mystery
Revisado: 02-05-22
Not as good as the little tea shop mysteries. Looking at the cover picture, I expected the cats to play a greater role. I was a bit disappointed. I gave it a higher rating because I love cozy mysteries and want there to be more of them.

Horrible Narrator
Revisado: 06-27-21
I will never know if this book was good or not because after just under 4 chapters my nerves were shot listening to the awful narrator. Where did they get her? I could have done such a better job.

Historia
Bhima, the unforgettable main character of Thrity Umrigar’s beloved national best seller, The Space Between Us, returns in this triumphant sequel - a poignant and compelling novel in which the former servant struggles against the circumstances of class and misfortune to forge a new path for herself and her granddaughter in modern India. Poor and illiterate, Bhima had faithfully worked for the Dubash family, an upper-middle-class Parsi household, for more than 20 years.

Sequel to The Space Between Us
Revisado: 10-02-20
A must read if you have read The Space Between Us, which I was so disappointed in the ending but this amended that.
Although additional characters are introduced, the story revolves around the illiterate Bhimi and the former prostitute Parvati.
I don’t know much about caste systems and didn’t know they still existed but it’s hard to believe how poor some of the people of India live. It breaks my heart.
I enjoyed both books. But you definitely need to read them both to get the full story.

Historia
Best-selling author Thrity Umrigar won the Nieman Fellowship and earned a finalist spot for the PEN/Beyond Margins award with The Space Between Us. Set in modern-day India, this evocative novel follows upper-middle-class Parsi housewife Sera Dubash and 65-year-old illiterate household worker Bhima as they make their way through life. Though separated by their stations in life, the two women share bonds of womanhood that prove far stronger than the divisions of class or culture.

I didn’t understand the ending
Revisado: 09-27-20
It was interesting about a lower class domestic who cannot read or write working for a wealthy educated upper class Indian family living in, then, Bombay.
I do not know the customs of India but it seems extremely different than The USA. I found it hard to relate and kept thinking of Pearl S Buck’s The Good Earth which I read in about 1965.
I will say I didn’t like the ending. I didn’t understand what she did. And I thought it was left unfinished. Up until then I was in for 4 stars. Now I want to give it 1. I’m really upset I wasn’t a credit. I’ve also purchased another of her books. I’m going to read most of the low reviews before I read it. I just can’t do 2 disappointments in a row.
