Historia
One of the most important novels in classic literature, Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter tackles the subject of adultery, with the notorious Hester Prynne at the forefront of the scandal in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. In the beginning of the novel, Hester is serving time in prison for having a child out of wedlock and is forced to wear a scarlet A on her clothing at all times, so she cannot run from her sin no matter where she goes.

Incomprehensible
Revisado: 09-20-23
I had to stop the book because I couldn't comprehend the old language and grammar with the English accent. I sampled all available versions this time before purchasing to find one with an American accent that was easier for me to understand. I'll return this book.

Historia
In this allegorical short story, Nathaniel Hawthorne parodies John Bunyan’s famous book, The Pilgrim’s Progress. Rather than take the long and arduous road to the Celestial City, Hawthorne’s narrator hops on the express train to paradise. As he gets closer to his destination, however, he realizes that the clever-talking Mr. Smooth-It-Away may not be who he claims. While a caricature of Bunyan’s original tale, “The Celestial Railroad” ultimately drives home a similar point: there is no easy road to Heaven, so tough it out on the straight and narrow.

Could Not Listen
Revisado: 03-06-23
I listen to ALOT of audiobooks. This one I COULD NOT listen to. The narrator whistles, hurting my ears. Her accent was so strong that I could not understand what was being said. I gave up and read the story myself!

In the best-selling and critically acclaimed Darwin on Trial and Reason in the Balance, Phillip Johnson took on the academic elites and exposed the misleading claims of evolutionary naturalism. Defeating Darwinism by Opening Minds provides a new and powerful treatment of these issues for high-school students, parents, teachers, pastors, youth advisers, and ordinary listeners. Johnson aims not just to defeat a bad theory, but to defeat it in the right way - by opening minds to the truth.

Put Me To Sleep
Revisado: 03-05-23
The content was good. It opened alot of conversation within my family. We read it for a class and pulled it apart chapter by chapter each week. I had the worst time with the narrator though. His reading was condescending, which made the book seem less than mature. He also didn't pause enough or vary his tone enough. I listen to alot of audiobooks each year with no problem, but this one put me to sleep every time I listened.

I Love Lectures by Ann
Revisado: 01-23-23
Professor Curzan presents a fun view of English. Her presentation is engaging and not annoying. I first was introduced to her when looking for a hard and fast course on grammar. I downloaded her Bootcamp lecture from the Great Courses. It was opposite of what I thought I was getting and refreshing and a relief at the same time. This lecture series opened my eyes to the huge change in language. This lecture series and the Bootcamp series both challenged me to be more open to the way others communicate. Communication is not necessarily wrong in the way some grammar d!@/$ act, but creative and different. I challenge you to listen and judge for yourself. I don't believe you will lose anything, but rather gain alot.

So much fun!
Revisado: 01-02-23
This book was so much fun. My imagination was sparked. I'm inspired to try new things, but only with communicating with my dog but with other things in my life. This book was one more cog in a wheel of my interest in communication. The narration was good. I had no issues with it. I did listen in 1.5x speed but that's because I listen to all audiobooks on an increased speed. I recommend this book to others.

Great Coming of Age Story
Revisado: 10-16-22
The narrator was mostly really good. I'm writing the review weeks after I listened, so I'm trying to remember exactly what annoyed me. I think it might have been when the narrator was speaking the female parts. The story was great. There were some sad moments and the ending was sad. True life isn't Hollywood. There were also some really neat experiences that his parents allowed, and experiences he pursued. It made me want to be a kid or just go learn something new. I'm so glad my daughter and I listened together.

Historia
Ernest Hemingway said, “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn". One hundred years after its author’s death, this classic remains remarkably modern and poignantly relevant. In this new edition, Elijah Wood reads Huck in a youthful voice that may be the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent. His performance captures the excitement and confusion of adolescence and adventure.

Shameful Mindset
Revisado: 10-14-22
I have heard about this classic book for 40y, but just now read/ listened. The adventures were fun for awhile, but unlikely and hard to believe since it was one right after another. I like to be sucked into a story like I'm there, but this was hard for me. I didn't want to be there. I kept thinking how stupid these people were with their constant lies and maltreatment of other humans. It was hard to hear the way these people thought of slaves and free blacks. They were all an ungodly bunch, even the "Christians". The author must have been an SOB. How is it that he is so widely famous and popular when his thoughts created a story of such a sickley treatment of humans? I would not recommend this to a friend or for children. There are too many truely clean, adventurous and good hearted books to choose from.
The narrator was great though. Not annoying in the least...I sayz.

The Book is a Part of Me Now
Revisado: 09-30-22
I would never in my life have thought I would listen to and love a book about coon hunting. It feels like Old Dan and Little Ann are a part of me now. The story was well written and engaging the whole time. There were life lessons throughout. My 13yo daughter listened and followed along reading cover to cover in only two days. The narrator was perfect for this book. He was never annoying, even when he took on the feminine voices of Mother and children.
