Great for the nerd, soccer fans who can put up with weird pronunciation
Revisado: 05-30-24
The text and analysis are awesome. And generally the reading is good. But could no one tell the reader that Ajax isn't pronounced like the Greek hero and that Thierry Henry is French so not pronounced like Henry VIII? Takes the fan out of the text at times.

Historia
In Masters of Modern Soccer, Sports Illustrated writer Grant Wahl asks: How do some of the game's smartest figures master the craft of soccer? By profiling players in every key position (American phenomenon Christian Pulisic, Mexican superstar Javier "Chicharito" Hernández, Belgium's Vincent Kompany, Spain's Xabi Alonso, Germany's Manuel Neuer) and management (Belgium coach Roberto Martínez and Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc), Wahl reveals how elite players and coaches strategize on and off the field and execute in high pressure game situations.

Good, but needed to pick an audience.
Revisado: 01-13-20
A good overview of modern soccer, but it straddles the line between being for soccer aficionados and sports fans who only have a passing understanding of the game. As a coach I found some nuggets and some entertainment, but most of what was said was not particularly new.

A useful survey, just what I wanted

Only one gripe.
Revisado: 12-05-18
Excellent course. Only thing that kept annoying me was the way the professor pronounces peninsula. It would be something to ignore, but when talking about Italy it comes up a lot.

Historia
Twice in the first half of the last century, the great powers engaged in wars that killed nearly 70 million people, with the aftermath of each shaking the international political system, changing the maps of the world, and setting the scene for the next great conflict. And for most of the past 50 years, the Cold War dominated international politics. Is this the history we are condemned to repeat? This series of eight lectures about international politics will hone your ability to approach that question with knowledge and insight.

“Beware of historians with bad analogies.”

Dated but good.
Revisado: 04-04-17
Very interesting to listen to with the hindsight of over 25 years. The ability to go back and see what people were thinking before the final fall of the Soviet Union is a good reminder of the way the future is not inevitable.

I've a lot of reading to do
Revisado: 12-08-16
This course makes me want to read all of the theorists he mentions myself. The extensive intellectual depth that this course takes is very exciting and draws you into the world of strategy.
