Historia
C. S. Lewis's dazzling allegory about Heaven and Hell - and the chasm fixed between them - is one of his most brilliantly imaginative tales, where we discover that the gates of Hell are locked from the inside. In a dream, the narrator boards a bus on a drizzly afternoon in Hell and embarks on an incredible voyage to Heaven. Anyone in Hell is invited on board, and anyone may remain in Heaven if he or she so chooses. But do we really want to live in Heaven?

Interesting, insightful, well written
Revisado: 02-27-23
As with all Lewis works, quite well written. Little boring to start, but middle and ends strong. The story is about a trip to the afterworld and the people living there. Short vignettes of souls there and some insights derived therefrom.

Really Nice
Revisado: 12-08-22
I purchased this book three times now. Once in audio format and then a couple more in print. The book is a fictionalized speech given by the Founders using entirely quotes from all the great liberty figures in history. If you are very well read you won't find much new here, but I still think the reading is quite worth it. And to those not so well read, it's a fantastic shorthand for those not as familiar with the words and ideas of the Founders. I got the print version just to have the compendium of quotes at my finger tips.
Do recommend. It is uplifting mostly and can illuminate many topics of today.

Drab story
Revisado: 12-03-22
I get why it’s popular to modernists, but for anyone with soul this book barely registers. My feeling toward the book is the same feeling the lead character has toward the world: near indifference. Read the last chapter and you’ve got all the substance this book has to offer.

Historia
The Bhagavad Gita, "The Song of the Lord", is the best known of all the Indian scriptures, and Easwaran's reliable and accessible version has consistently been the best-selling translation. Easwaran's introduction places the Gita in its historical setting and brings out the universality and timelessness of its teachings. Chapter introductions give clear explanations of key concepts in that chapter.

I learned more about eastern religion from this book and it’s introduction(s), than I have from full courses on the subject. Highly recommend. Lots of wisdom in these passages even if you’re not a mystic. Worth it.

Fantastic
Revisado: 05-12-22
Extremely clearly written, really fantastic and concise examination of the roots of postmodernism. This is not an easy read, but well worth the time. You must have at least a basic philosophy vocabulary and if you have some knowledge of continental philosophy even better. This explains the ideas that have become dominant over the 20th century that has lead to the world we currently live in. This is a must read for all interested in understanding modern politics and popular culture.

Historia
Benedict de Spinoza's Ethics, first published in 1677, constitutes a major systematic critique of the traditional and religious foundations of philosophical thought. In it, Spinoza follows a logical step-by-step format consisting of definitions, axioms, propositions, proofs, and corollaries to create a comprehensive inquiry into the truth about God, nature, and humans' place within the universe. From these broad metaphysical themes, Spinoza derives what he considered to be the highest principles of religion and society and lays out an ethical system in which reason is the supreme value.

Just okay
Revisado: 06-04-21
As I should’ve expected the book is very heavy on mysticism and there’s a strong undertone of communistic ideas, wrapped in the concept of “under the fatherhood of god, for the brotherhood of man” — there’s a couple of interesting points mixed in. I enjoyed the later chapters better than the first half. Short story of the unknown patriot at the signing of the declaration and the Mount Vernon vision of Washington, also the ending chapter on Emerson were the highlights for me.

Worth it - maybe try a different version
Revisado: 02-01-21
I see a lot of people raving about Tim Robbins narration, I have to vigorously disagree. Really gave the book a weird uncomfortable tone. I think I would've like it a lot better read by someone else. The story itself is decent, it's no 1984 but has some good solid passages that make the whole thing worth the trek. It's not very long.

Despite the Moralists
Revisado: 05-31-19
If you can't immediately see the value in listening to this book, you're a moron. You don't have to be evil to like this book--all of the rules are contextual and can be used however you see fit or not at all. Merely hearing once is worth the while. It's well written and engaging. It uses many notable figures throughout history to illustrate the laws which gives it even more appeal. Fantastic work, the source material must have taken a lifetime to study, in so doing the author has done us all a great favor.
