Historia
Was the biggest case of his career the worst mistake he ever made? Ten years ago, DCI Jack Logan stopped the serial child-killer dubbed "Mister Whisper", earning himself a commendation, a drinking problem, and a broken marriage in the process...When another child disappears a hundred miles north in the Highlands, Jack is sent to lead the investigation and bring the boy home. But as similarities between the two cases grow, could it be that Jack caught the wrong man all those years ago?

J. D. Kirk’s Brilliant Detective
Revisado: 09-06-23
Kirk’s DI Jack Logan is a tough guy with a huge heart, one of the most fascinating detectives I’ve encountered since Vera. Book 1 was a wonderful audible experience, and Angus King takes us right into the Scottish Highlands with ease.

Lord John Novels’ Further Develop Characters & Plot
Revisado: 02-24-23
Virgins is a prequel that explains why Jamie has remained a virgin until Claire. Fugitive Green enriches the story of Hal & Minnie that will add much to books 7, 8, 9. Besieged shows Lord John leaving Jamaica to rescue his mother & cousin in Cuba. All most enjoyable.

Lord John Investigates
Revisado: 11-29-22
I’ve loved the Lord John books, and this is my second favorite. The characters are richly developed, and the pace of dealing with the ‘private matter’ is akin to a battle scene. Our introduction to Tom Bird is amusing as he proves himself to be a valuable valet. An excellent listen.

Enjoying American History
Revisado: 11-14-22
As an educator who’s taught and been taught American History, I was thrilled to learn nuggets about our early colonization in NC. The Regulator movement was fascinating. Experiencing, through the author’s eyes, the lives of the settlers was like taking a trip through the stones myself.

Historia
Doyle was back at Scotland Yard after taking maternity leave, and the powers-that-be had decided they’d ease her way by assigning her to assist DS Isabella Munoz, which was a fate only slightly worse than death. Annoying, it was, that she had to answer to Munoz; not to mention that Munoz wasn’t given many high-quality homicide assignments in the first place.

Finally, a Better Reader
Revisado: 08-31-22
After the first three books in the series, the narrators had not been very good or carefully produced: tortured attempts at Irish accents, mispronunciations (not meaning British different pronunciations), odd tones. This book has a better reader though none are as good as the first three.
Side note—The Romanov connection is a bridge too far, as if communist Russia is even close to a desire to return to the monarchy. The tale would have worked as well had Cleeves chosen a fictional country.

Historia
This holiday trip to Dublin had been very hard on Doyle’s husband - although he was making a monumental effort to disguise this fact - and unless she very much missed her guess, it was all somehow connected to the grisly murder on the station house steps. That, and an African cabdriver who wore a jaunty tam-o’-shanter.

Pronunciation Errors
Revisado: 01-18-21
Rebecca Fern has a delightful reading voice, giving a credible change for different characters. The performance would be augmented if someone checked to assure correct pronunciation of some words in the text before official submission.

Historia
Holland and Niles Perry are identical thirteen-year-old twins. They are close, close enough, almost, to read each other's thoughts, but they couldn't be more different. Holland is bold and mischievous, a bad influence, while Niles is kind and eager to please, the sort of boy who makes parents proud. The Perrys live in the bucolic New England town their family settled centuries ago, and as it happens, the extended clan has gathered at its ancestral farm this summer to mourn the death of the twins' father in a most unfortunate accident.

Historia
First-year detective Kathleen Doyle is a plucky Irish redhead of humble origins and modest means. Chief Inspector Michael Acton is her antithesis: a British lord turned cop. He's tall, handsome, and enigmatic - to a fault. He also has a knack for solving London's most high-profile crimes. Acton selects Doyle out of the newbie squad to partner with him on a series of investigations because she always knows when someone is lying - a trait that comes in handy when interviewing suspects and witnesses.

Quirky Characters & a Few Giggles
Revisado: 01-30-19
How can a mystery be suspenseful, funny, and delightful? When the protagonists are a DCI—an aloof, sometimes reclusive, obsessive English Lord—and his DC—a red head, 13 years his senior, who’s Irish and a little fey. When these two team up, the plot is a mix of suspense, sizzle, and well placed laughs.
The readers Irish accent is delightful. Highly recommend to most. It’s a jolly fun read.

Historia
The Dirty Duck is a pub in Shakespeare's beloved Stratford, and in this pub Miss Gwendolyn Bracegirdle of Sarasota, Florida, fresh from a performance of As You Like It, takes her last drink. A few minutes later she is slashed ear to ear, the only clue: two lines from an unknown poem printed across a theater program. And Scotland Yard Superintendent Richard Jury, just passing through Stratford for a glimpse of the intriguing Lady Kennington, instead takes a crash course in the bloodier side of Elizabethan verse.

American Accents Mar Good Listening
Revisado: 11-21-18
For some reason, the voice rendering of one of the main characters irritated me. Petty of me, I know, but it did spoil the overall experience with a book set in Stratford with Shakespeare in the background.
