Historia
I’d been prom queen and cheer captain—high school’s most savage Queen Bee. I could have everything I wanted. Except them. The freaks, the weirdos, the school’s ultimate losers: Manson, Jason, Lucas, and Vincent. Our hatred for each other couldn’t keep us apart, not even when my own mistake got Manson expelled and made me the ultimate villain to the rest of them.

Hot Catharsis
Revisado: 09-02-23
How does Harley Laroux write such hot steam as part of the fabric of intense, real, unflinching drama? This story reminded me so much of the self destructive, wounded conflicts and lives between kids from different sides of the tracks that made up my youth, and gave me a lot more healing than I was expecting.
Oh yeah also wowowow that one spicy scene destroyed me.

Tense and fresh
Revisado: 03-29-23
I really enjoyed this story of a gore and true crime obsessed woman killing someone for [reasons] and then exploring how that story and the stories others wrote about her, change her life.
I just wanted it to go even further and weirder. She starts the weirdest she ever gets, and if she’s have gone off the rails this would be an instant fave.
Narration was excellent but definitely narrator style vs performance, and I prefer the latter. This creepy freak of a protagonist would have been great with a character actor style read rather than the flawless, but maybe too polished, read here, but that’s just my taste in weird audiobooks.

Historia
The day that Lorrie "accidentally" cuts off her little toe, she discovers what it's like to be able-bodied and not want that body. After Bartholomew loses his left arm to a landmine, he's inspired to start a new kind of church—one where both amputation and sex are types of performance art. Trice, a prosthetics engineer, receives the assignment of a lifetime when he's asked to rebuild his son's crippled frame. Haunted by the memory of his dead wife, George must take the ultimate measure to excise her ghost. For good.

Genre-bending body exploration
Revisado: 02-20-23
A difficult book to categorize or describe, but not to appreciate and enjoy.
Essays, stories, documents about voluntary amputation, dysmorphia, and body image. The tone is effectively flat and clinical, but unflinching, straddling a fictional Mary Roach mashed up with Chuck P.
I love how the narrative never really opines on its subjects. Is this horror, erotica, documentary, case study? That’s up to you. These people simply are, except of course that most of them are made up. Fascinating and fun. The narrator was perfect for the job - flat affect, pleasant but clinical, and almost unnoticeable.
I received a free copy of this book on audiobooksunleashed and have given my honest thoughts.

Incredible folk horror, that captures grief and the longing for answers, context, and control, like little else I've read. Devastating from beginning to end.

Historia
By the time playwright and actor Shawn Frost had won two Tony Awards by his late 20s, he was seen as a theater prodigy—a meteoric rise that the performing arts community had not witnessed in almost a hundred years. His work? Shakespearean in scope, character, and popularity—boundless and beautiful. His own character? Flawed. And in a place like New York City, where failings get magnified, Shawn Frost finds that, even from the heights of artistic sublimity, no one is insulated from the demons that have caused the best of entertainers to fall from grace.

Look, as a narrator this was a shoo-in, and Mr. Brick's narration was impeccable as always. The denouement didn't quite work for me, but I was still rapt the whole time.

Bloody Fun With Masks
Revisado: 02-09-23
Turns out this k!nkis not my particular bag, but it was very well written, with a lot of variety of spicy scenes, some exciting revenge, and lots of playfulness between the danger and the erotica.
Both narrators were outstanding, I'm immediately seeking out more by them.

Historia
Only one more show and heavy metal guitarist Spencer Hesston can finally quit Rot in Hell. No more touring, no more fighting, and no more unwanted advances from the lead singer's girlfriend. But instead of waking up the next day in their Midwestern hometown, the band finds themselves dazed and confused in an abandoned settlement in the middle of the desert, with no idea of how they got there. Things are done a little differently out here: The trees have perverse urges, the spiders have human fingers, and every time they step outside the town transforms into a new hellish nightmare.

Historia
These three stories come with a breath of cold and a sort of longing, the sort of thing that consumes someone if they let it. "Wendy Won't Go" is the story of a family whose loss threatens to consume them all, "Love like Blood" is a story about the limits one will reach before love is gone, and "Cold Comfort" is about the bitterness that devours us within before it goes on to consume everything around us.

Vivid poetic gore draped over deep loss
Revisado: 12-16-22
Beautiful stories with gorgeous prose describing both deeply sad emotions and wet, welcoming gore. Amanda Lyons is a new favorite.
I found the audiobook layout confusing, and wasn’t sure when one story began and another started. Part of that was chapter titling and part was a narration that stayed at a constant dynamic throughout. I like the narrator very much - his steady, warm voice would be an asset to many horror tales. I think I might have liked a little more dynamic, poetic read for this work, though. I would have liked a little more theater or poetry-reading energy. Still, I would ask out work by him again, and the overall production was outstanding.

Jonathan Dillon and his wife are going through a divorce. To their lawyer, they seem like they have mutually accepted it. They have made a difficult decision, but they are going through this trying time together, free of animosity or hate. Some things, though, are not what they seem on the outside. After a seemingly freak accident, a truth comes to light. A decision is made, but not the morally right one.

A sleazy lawyer sniffs out the truth
Revisado: 12-14-22
This was a fun story, with the perfect narrator. The protagonist is a divorce lawyer with a nose for BS but a moral code that is, let’s say, flexible. When he is arbitrating a seemingly amicable divorce, one member of the couple turns up dead, and he must get to the bottom of it and how much he cares about doing “the right thing”
I’d listen to more by both this author and narrator for sure.

Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

Possibly the best audiobook I have heard
Revisado: 12-13-22
Nothing to say about the text that hasn't been said a thousand times, and better.
Ms. Newton's narration, however, deserves so much praise. She slips into the characters while providing that intimate, "one good friend telling you a story" experience that is truly rare, and is the hardest part of audiobook narration in my experience. This is the model for me as a narrator, now, and I can't recommend this enough as "the" version of Jane Eyre.
