A enjoyable book but with some issues
Revisado: 08-17-21
The "Looking Glass" was a much needed combination of novellas to fill in the gaps and post stories of Alice and Hatcher.
"Lovely Creature" was quite enjoyable story of Elizabeth and the continuing saga Alice's family. This was well done in similar style to the first book "Alice" without all of the violence. Christina should continue this story and develop it into its own series or at least a full book. We need to know what happens to Elizabeth. 5/5
"Girl in Amber" fills in the story right after Alice and Hatcher leave the White Queen's castle as they journey to find their little cottage by the lake. Oh, I was left wanting something better then what was there. It started off fine until Alice enters into the house...then it takes a plunge into a disconnected "parallel universe" where I am having flashbacks to the movie "Aliens" and the Queen birthing all of the eggs crossed over with a Japanese anime. I felt I was reading a sci-fi story and not one that belonged in the "Alice" series. The monster was "out of place" it didn't fit the story line. 3/5
"When I First Came to Town" fills in the back story to Hatcher. This redeems Christina and her novellas. The story was well written and engaging. It filled in that empty piece Hatcher's life, the time when he was simply Nicholas who was an "honorable" young man while living in the muck and mire of the Old City. And let us not forget the fall of "The Grinder". 5/5
"The Mercy Seat" continues after the "Girl in Amber" as Alice and Hatcher continue their journey through the mountains to find their cottage by the lake. They must pass through the "Village of the Pure" which deal with those who are "special" in a more barbaric manner than they do in the New City. 5/5

Historia
The land outside of the Old City was supposed to be green, lush, hopeful. A place where Alice could finally rest, no longer the plaything of the Rabbit, the pawn of Cheshire, or the prey of the Jabberwocky. But the verdant fields are nothing but ash - and hope is nowhere to be found. Still, Alice and Hatcher are on a mission to find his daughter, a quest they will not forsake even as it takes them deep into the clutches of the mad White Queen and her goblin or into the realm of the twisted and cruel Black King. The pieces are set, and the game has already begun.

Not like the first book, but good in its own right
Revisado: 08-03-21
Christina Henry has produced another satisfying literary work. The Red Queen is quite the polar opposite of Alice. It is a subdued storyline when compared to the raw, gritty, and at times shocking story of Alice. The Red Queen seemed to focus more on the magical development of Alice and her as the primary character apart for Hatcher, as he was only really at the beginning and end of the story. The men in the flying machines at the story's beginning seemed to be altogether out of place, they did not fit the time nor place, they honestly could have been left out. Don't go into this book expecting the raw bloody Alice, because it is not. I do wish that there was more background story established for the Jenny and how she ended up where she did, along with the White and Red Queens.

Historia
In a warren of crumbling buildings and desperate people called the Old City, there stands a hospital with cinderblock walls that echo the screams of the poor souls inside. In the hospital, there is a woman. Her hair, once blond, hangs in tangles down her back. She doesn't remember why she's in such a terrible place. Just a tea party long ago, and long ears, and blood.

A unique take on the story.
Revisado: 07-22-21
*Warning, this is not a book for kids, it is filled with violence, murder, cannibalism, sex slave trade, prostitution and rape." This is not your Disney version of Alice. It is a very macabre, dark, grungy, "real world" (think London in the 1800's) adventure filled with fantastical and magical inspired aberrations. There are no cute Disney characters that you recall as a child, no, the Rabbit, Walrus, Caterpillar and Cheshire are vile, despicable "mob bosses" that control the seedy underbelly of the "Old City". Alice is a well written story that should be made into a movie or limited series. The vocal performance was good but would have benefited from a larger vocal cast. The author should contact Graphic Audio and do a dramatized adaptation of the book.

Historia
After discovering just how filled with magic, intrigue, and adventure the parahuman world of being an Undead American can be, Fredrick Frankford Fletcher did exactly what was expected - he became a certified parahuman accountant. Myths and legends, as it turns out, are not so great at taking appropriate deductions and keeping their receipts, and Fred is more than happy to return to a life others view as woefully dull, expanding his accounting business to cater to various monsters and their respective financial needs.

Historia
On March 8, 1421, the largest fleet the world had ever seen set sail from China. Its mission was to "proceed all the way to the ends of the earth to collect tribute from the barbarians beyond the seas" and unite the whole world in Confucian harmony. When it returned in October 1423, the emperor had fallen, leaving China in political and economic chaos. The great ships were left to rot at their moorings and the records of their journeys were destroyed. Lost in China's long isolation that followed was the knowledge that Chinese ships had reached America 70 years before Columbus.

interesting story, could have been written better
Revisado: 02-25-20
I had a hard time getting into the story, there were so much poor descriptive terms used throughout the book. For example she used Heckler & Koch as the manufacturer of some weapons which is correct, but no one calls them that they just use H&K...

Historia
In 2003, software engineer David Miller left his job, family, and friends to hike 2,172 miles of the Appalachian Trail. AWOL on the Appalachian Trail is Miller’s account of this thru-hike from Georgia to Maine. Listeners are treated to rich descriptions of the Appalachian Mountains, the isolation and reverie, the inspiration that fueled his quest, and the rewards of taking a less conventional path through life. While this book abounds with introspection and perseverance, it also provides useful passages about hiking gear and planning.

A wonderful story of the AT. The writing was well done and kept in my interest and the narration was fabulous. He wasn't monotone and varied his voice for different characters. A highly recommended audio book and regular book.
