A good story

I've downloaded so many audio books as a Sherlock fan. Some good, some terrible. This is a solid story, perhaps a bit rushed at the end but the performance and the production was well done and kept me interested even if the "mystery" wasn't too much of a mystery

I thought it was a gimmick. I was very wrong.

In the same way the movie "Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter" was, with prejudice, thought to be a gimmick before it was reviewed with surprising critical praise, I would review this title with the same surprising praise. If you are a fan of the Sir Arthur C. Doyle's Sherlock or not, you should give this book a try!

I understood about 7% of what was going on

Full disclosure, I am only a medical doctor so I am not smart enough to understand and follow along with the complex names of German aristocracy of the 1890's. It never stopped me from appreciating Sherlock stories before, it did now. The speaker does a fantastic Dr. Watson and in the first hour of the book, having Dr. Watson talk to Sherlock, seems like it was going ok. Then there was a conversation between 3 people...oh boy.
Lastly, for anybody familiar with the canon, you might forgive some liberty with the way Sherlock is portrayed and his mannerisms. I think it is quite difficult for me to do this in this case.
I gave it 2 stars because the initial plot device and character portrayal was ok but went off the rail after that device came to a conclusion and the actual "mystery" was introduced.

Great as always...except the end

No spoilers but the ending was too quick and felt rushed. Looking forward to whatever comes next. I also hope these get turned into movies. Can definitely see the casting in my head already.

This book should have more aptly been named "Dr. Watson pretends to be James Bond" Sherlock Holmes is clearly a supporting character. It is easy to tell since all the characters are so one dimensional. The ONLY saving grace of this AUDIObook is that it is read by Simon Vance who, for me, IS the voice of Sherlock Holmes. Even poor Simon couldn't save this Danielle Steele written screenplay starring a castrated Jason Statham as Dr. Watson. If Hollywood execs do what they do worst, that is eventually what this garbage will turn into.
IF YOU LIKE THE ORIGINAL SHERLOCK HOLMES STORIES, DO NOT GET THIS.
