Historia
Frances and her husband, George, have two points of interest in Paris. One is an impromptu holiday to visit the Paris Exposition. The other is personal. George’s Aunt Julia has requested her nephew’s help in looking into the suspicious death of renowned artist Paul Ducasse. Though Julia is not entirely forthcoming about her reasons, she is clearly a woman mourning a lost love. At the exposition, swarming with tourists, tragedy casts a pall on the festivities. A footbridge collapses. Julia is among the casualties. However, she was not just another fateful victim.

Great Series
Revisado: 04-12-25
For those of you who already are fans of author Dianne Freeman's Countess of Harley Mysteries, this book is a perfect addition. Frances and George are going to Paris, but not for a honeymoon. George's aunt has asked him to come, to investigate the death of her friend. Frances convinces George to bring her along because the World's Fair is in Paris. When they begin their journey, they have no idea how their lives are about to change.
I think this is a brilliant, turn of the 20th Century historical series, with excellent narration.

Historia
While Charity Shackleford might be considered far more outspoken than her twin sister Chastity, she was much less inclined to make a complete cake of herself. Something her twin appeared to be doing with increasing regularity. Indeed, when details of Chastity's latest faux pas threatened to travel beyond the confines of Blackmore, it appeared that removing her from the vicinity was the only answer. Naturally, as always, Grace, the eldest daughter and current Duchess of Blackmore was tasked with picking up the pieces.

Another Historic Romp
Revisado: 04-03-25
I am a huge fan of this series with its cast of hilarious characters and liberal use of saucy idioms, comical expressions and common epithets from 19th. Century England. I am not sure whether to call these stories mysteries or adventures, but they are certainly romances featuring the clever Shackleford sisters and their handsome beaux. Author Beverley Watts writes another series that picks up where this one leaves off, and she assures me it is also very funny. Good. I'll listen to the rest of this series first.
The narrators are terrific, making the audiobook an easy choice.

Simply Delightful
Revisado: 03-31-25
The story was very different and truly delightful. While the narrators are very talented and have great voices, I frequently had to rewind and listen to passages more than once in order to understand what was being said. The problem might have been partly because of their accents, but it occurred more often when the female narrator was reading, her words becoming garbled and indistinct. It is likely that part of the difficulty was with the recording as much as with the actor's voice, however it happened too often. Otherwise, I loved the story.

The Best Characters
Revisado: 03-29-25
I can't get enough of this series! Author Rhys Bowen can't write them fast enough, I love the historical world she has created and the characters she has placed in it.
Georgie is a thoroughly trustworthy narrator of her experiences in 1930's Great Britain. A very poor minor royal, she has taken us along on adventures, replete with mishaps and murders. Now married to her dreamboat husband and the mother of an infant son, she is still susceptible to the whims of her clueless family and too polite to avoid being taken advantage of by even the most loving member.
If you are a fan of this series, you'll love the latest addition. If you like cozy mysteries in historical time frames, I promise you that this series is a cut above!
Excellent narration.

Historia
Ellison Russell is planning the event of the season - and she's stressed. Why not yoga? Because the yoga instructor gets murdered during class - and Ellison's stress level rises exponentially. Now, in addition to raising a ridiculous amount of money, she's babysitting a deranged cat (named after the devil himself), taking 10 million phone calls (most of them from Mother), and finding more bodies (they're popping up like dandelions after a spring rain). There's no such thing as balance when the killer makes it personal. Can Ellison catch a murderer or will her next namaste be her last?

I Love This Series
Revisado: 03-28-25
I must confess that I frequently guess the endings of these mysteries, but the ending doesn't matter. The fun is in getting there. This story begins with a yoga lesson at Ellison's friend's home where the students get locked in the studio and a murder takes place. More murders and attempted murders all point to an event that happened in the past. Ellison, once again, sees the patterns and helps to solve the mystery. Ultimately, the theme of this story is about the injustice of a system which exonerates rapists and leaves women to deal with the consequences over their lifetimes. Told with humor by a glib protagonist, this series is a joy to listen to.

It was supposed to be an easy house- and dog-sitting gig while the owner was gone for a month. But when my sportsing landlord comes home unexpectedly, injured and in need of a new arrangement, we end up as accidental roommates instead. But if Holt Webster, the tall, thick-muscled, square-jawed, broody-eyed rugby player, had told me he played for the Copper Valley Pounders, I would’ve told him that my stepdad bought the team while I was working cruise ships overseas.

Lovable Characters, Great Narrators
Revisado: 03-08-25
If you are a fan of sports romances this one, featuring a lovable rugby player and the team owner's pregnant daughter, is terrific! I adore the main characters and it was great to see some of the characters from Pippa Grant's first rugby story in this book. As always, this author promises a story full of hilarious incidents, messy relationships, spicy love scenes and a happy ending. What more could you wish for? Perhaps two talented narrators with a huge range of character voices. You got it!

At 27 years old, Emma Banks has big plans for her life. After graduating from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, she's ready to take her place as head chef at one of her family's resort restaurants. Her first assignment is to serve Pierce Davenport, an infuriatingly arrogant writer with a palate that's about as adventurous as a plain boiled potato. Pierce Davenport's living every author's dream: His critically-acclaimed Clash of Crowns books have been turned into one of the world's most-watched television series. The only problem is, he has no idea how to end the epic tale.

Opposites Attract
Revisado: 02-28-25
This is the second book in author Melanie Summers' series set at a family owned Carribean resort, teetering on the brink of financial disaster. Not quite as riotous as the first book, it was still fun and funny.
It wasn't as if they did not notice the physical attractions of one another at their first awkward meeting. That interaction was ugly leaving neither with any desire for further acquaitance. But each of the soon-to-be lovers had to adjust their perceptions of one another and look closely at their own egos over and over. I enjoyed seeing how the expectations of the two protagonists were constantly dashed and how each one had to spend some time doing reality checks and a bit of self-examination before we could get to the "happily ever after."
Excellent narration.

Five hockey players, a cabin in the woods...and little old me, Winnie Berlin. Sounds like the start of a fantasy, right? But it's not. It's my reality. It all started when I got lost in the middle of the Canadian Rockies. A wicked thunderstorm sent my car mud sliding into a ditch, and for a girl whose survival skills involve finding the nearest Starbucks, I was in deep trouble. Forced to abandon my car in search of help, I stumbled upon a cabin in the middle of nowhere.

Meet the Guys
Revisado: 02-25-25
One of the best things about this story was meeting the guys whose stories will be featured in this series. I enjoyed their appearances, their vocal support for one another, and their humor. Although I appreciate that I am choosing to listen to stories with explicit content, there are a couple of things that make me uncomfortable. I don't think that we need disclaimers on sexy romances, but just once I would like to hear a woman in a new relationship in one of these books, tell the guy, "I don't like that." For me, if a guy hit me anywhere during sex, I surely would tell him that.
The narrators are terrific!

When Ellison Russell is nearly killed at a benefactors' party, she brushes the incident aside as an unhappy accident. But when her house is fire-bombed, she's shot at, and the person sitting next to her at a gala is poisoned, she must face facts. Someone wants her dead. But why? And can Ellison find the killer before he strikes again? Add in an estranged sister, a visiting aunt with a shocking secret, and a handsome detective staying in her guesthouse, and Ellison might need more than cream in her coffee.

Smart, Feisty Heroine
Revisado: 02-22-25
Book three in this series continues the theme of a smart, feisty heroine coming into her own. In each book, Ellison has had to navigate through the detritus of her family's foibles and stand up for herself while her female relatives try to ride roughshod over their once complient younger sister, niece, daughter. But she's not letting secrets get in her way when there have been attempts on her life, again.
My main criticism this time, is the number of family members who end up in the hospital with serious wounds and how that ploy is used once again for resolution of enmity. Three books in, I really like this series, the narration is great, and I am going to read book #4.

Jane Austen fan Amelia Bennett sneaks away from a dull tour of an English country manor, only to run into a man more dashing than Mr. Darcy himself. But when they wake in his bed the next morning, they’re convinced that in their drunken haze they witnessed a murder. Problem is, the body has vanished and no one believes them.

Fun Romantic Mystery
Revisado: 02-18-25
I love that this story opens the morning after, with Amelia attempting to slip off and leave Tom, Lord Morley, asleep in his bed. How she came to be there, is quickly explained. But everything that happened the night before is really foggy and not just the weather off the moors. What did they drink from his grandfather's wine cellar? Had they witnessed a murder? Did they see two creatures carrying a body rolled up in a rug? And who is hunting them and why?
The story is loads of fun, atmospheric and moody with tons of clues and backstories, like an old fashioned mystery. Wonderful narrators.
