Historia
London’s Slough House is where the washed-up MI5 spies go to while away what’s left of their careers. The “Slow Horses,” as they’re called, have all disgraced themselves in some way to get relegated here. Maybe they messed up an op badly, or got in the way of an ambitious colleague. Maybe they just got too dependent on the bottle—not unusual in this line of work. One thing these failed spies have in common, though, is they all want to be back in the action. Now the Slow Horses have a chance at redemption.

This series is great!
Revisado: 03-04-25
Slow Horses book series and TV series are really exciting. I love Herron’s sarcastic sense of humor, can make for bursts of laughter(scaring my dogs😂) Although Jackson Lamb’s constant berating got a bit much at times but god he has some great zingers! I watched the TV series first, they stick pretty well to the books. It is so well done had to go searching for more waiting for next season. Sometimes got a little confusing so listening/watching cleared a lot up. Starting book 3 & forward while waiting for season 4. One of the BEST book to TV ever done.

But when he receives a call from his mother after years of silence, he takes solace in the very pain medication he prescribes, spiraling downward into addiction. His sole source of true comfort is his "life list" - the all-encompassing record of the 863 bird species he's spotted and identified. His is the third longest list in all of North America.

What a sweet tale
Revisado: 10-05-24
Thoroughly enjoyed this story. My favorite narrator made it even better. That story,as Im sure youv’ve read the details, is not a thriller, not suspenseful but a beautiful introspective, well told story of a Dr,his childhood & adult struggles. His hobby of birding is interwoven throughout. It took my a few days as I fell asleep to it. David Aaron Baker’s gentle voice made it perfect. The ending may not be to somes like, not tied up in a bow. But it’s quite a surprise. It’s a book I think I’ll listen to again.

I died. And I came here. To a place they call Two. They say one out of three people who die come here. Berlin is here. She’s seven. She forgot to take her insulin. Darrel is here. He drowned. Dr. Raleigh is here. He’s the head counselor at the Two Adjustment Facility (TAF) I’m at. He died in an avalanche. Perry Whitcomb is here. I connected with him on Deadbook, Two’s version of Facebook. He was on my soccer team in middle school. He collapsed during one of our games. And get this, Heath Ledger is here. (Yeah, the Joker, himself.) He just had a new movie come out.

Was he on drugs?!
Revisado: 07-02-24
I love Nick’s books. I have all the series one’s plus others. But this, omg, is NOT his normal writing. Very disjointed, flips back & forth at times that are very hard to follow. Had to go back & re-listen to see wth was going on. The beginning was actually good & was excited about the story line, very unique. 3/4 way thru it just devolved into crazy. Nothing flows smoothly. Why is he “chosen” to know the secret of Two? A crazy trial but he’s not actually a lawyer. A 7 yr old cooking an entire Thanksgiving dinner. Okaaaay. It’s just bad. Go listen to Lassie instead. It’s a goos palate cleanser. Sorry Nick.

Revisado: 04-26-24
I’ve read a few very good trump books. Cohen’s 2, Blowback & Mary Trump’s book. This impressed on me more of trump’s narcissistic behavior & how unbelievably petty in little things. The childish behavior in how he finally left office. Petty, hateful & revengeful will be a trump’s second term. He WILL have ppl around that WON’T stop him,he’s learned. It boggles my mind, millions still believe in him.

Stories were nice, tho many very similar. The female narrator grated on my nerves. Nasally, weird cadence & robotic sounding. Both sounded at times like computer generated. Much better doggie books to waste time here. Sorry!

Historia
After the loss of his parents, young Jack Thatch first met Stella as a child - this cryptic little girl of eight with dark hair and darker eyes, sitting alone on a bench in the cemetery clutching her favorite book. The body of a man found in an alley, every inch of his flesh horribly burned, yet his clothing completely untouched. For Detective Faustino Brier, this wasn't the first, and he knew it wouldn't be the last. Isolated and locked away from the world in a shadowy lab, a little boy known only as Subject "D" waits, grows, learns. He's permitted to speak to no one.

Waaayyy too long
Revisado: 03-01-24
There really isn’t enough interesting content to warrant the length. Much repetition. If you like the “beautiful, mysterious girl, belittling young boy at EVERY turn” interesting, then settle in for the long haul. This is repeated over YEARS of meetings. Many different tangents that really aren’t connected until hours in. I quit after 10 or so hours seeing there were that many hours left. Liked the protagonist ok but good god,the abuse he put up with just got old. Trying to make this a deep teen romance was far fetched. Kept waiting for Marlon Brando to scream “Stellllaaaa” Too many good books to waste this many hours. Performance was only thing that kept me listening so long.

Hard to rate
Revisado: 02-27-24
Some stories grab you from the start, you may not even know why. This one did. One reason is the amazing narration of Sno. My goodness,it feels like she’s telling you personally her story in her letters. A masterful performance. That grabbed me. Then the intrigue got a hold. Then the way the story continues with her letters opening the story bit by bit. You find yourself feeling for Sno & her troubled life. I won’t give anything away, just that boy does that change! Kept me riveted until the end. Sorry to say it was not satisfying(why it was 4 stars) but that’s just me & the mystery remains. This haunting tale is a must listen. One of the best performances & unfolding of a story I’ve heard.

Dogs = love.
Revisado: 02-06-24
Heart warming of course but it goes a little beyond. Andy learns a few lessons with his pups. Selflessness can be a hard thing to attain when it comes to parting from something we love. Thoroughly enjoyed the story, ALL his books for that matter. If you’ve never seen a Dog’s Purpose, it’s a MUST! Then the sequel A Dog’s Journey. Watched both at once, it took me a while to glue myself back together, lol! On to the next Cameron doggy tale
