Historia
The boy has lived his whole life trapped within a book-choked chamber older than empires and larger than cities. The girl has been plucked from the outskirts of civilization to be trained as a librarian, studying the mysteries of the great library at the heart of her kingdom. They were never supposed to meet. But in the library, they did. Their stories spiral around each other, across worlds and time. This is a tale of truth and lies and hearts, and the blurring of one into another.

I’m in!
Revisado: 04-16-25
This is a fantastic book 1 for a series! I am heavily interested in the unfolding plot throughout these books. I love the main characters that you follow and the worlds that surround them! And the greatest part of this book is the plot twist. Even knowing that this book was good because of said twist, I did not see it coming and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since!
My only negative is that I’ve had to listen to the last several chapters to grasp where everyone is for the start of the 2nd book. (Which I’m enjoying already) I may be slow to comprehend, which could totally not be an issue with the book but me. But anyways, things get MOVING in the last few chapters and it sets up the next book very well!

Historia
The members of the Polaris Project knew what they were giving up when they volunteered to fly to the star named Angel-21, but the allure of being the first explorers to leave the Solar System far outweighed the risks. As it turned out, the most dangerous thing they faced wasn't the mission, it was the homecoming. Eight hundred years have passed, and Earth is nothing like they thought it would be.

An enjoyable listen!
Revisado: 02-17-25
Listening to this was a fun ride! It didn’t have the most complex characters or plot points that really surprised me, but appreciated all the details that went into telling what it would be like to return to vastly different earth.
Again, it’s certainly a book I’m glad I listened to. But I’ll have to be in a particular mood to want to listen to it again.

Now, as new technological discoveries by Navani Kholin’s scholars begin to change the face of the war, the enemy prepares a bold and dangerous operation. The arms race that follows will challenge the very core of the Radiant ideals.

Better each time I listen again!
Revisado: 12-05-24
This is my 3rd time going through this book and there is SO much I love about it! The first time there was just a lot of sciencey and backgroundy chapters that I wasn’t fond of. But now as a cosmere nerd I enjoy these chapters so much! And the character work is so great for each character!
I’m so hyped for Book 5 coming out in 2 days!!!!

Fantastic viking action!
Revisado: 10-18-24
A great sequel to Shadow of the Gods! I want to start by emphasizing that and the great action and new POV’s that we get in this book. And the ending has me like…. O____o
I will say that this book was somewhat hard to follow at some points with all of the side characters that our POV’s interact with. Something that could have helped with the audio experience would be if the narrator would give different voices to the different characters, but he only rotates through 4 voices for the full cast of everyone… (I really appreciate when he distinguishes some characters)
Those complaints aside, I’ve preordered the Fury of the Gods and now I am waiting in great anticipation!

Historia
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Fantastic Fantasy!
Revisado: 04-24-24
I finished this book almost 2 months ago and I wanted to come back to the series after listening to some other TBR’s. And upon listening to the final 3 chapters, I am reminded of how excited I am to continue this series!
There are comparisons that are made to Wheel of Time, which are fair. I can see that influence on Islington’s first book of this series, but that’s not a problem to me. That just means I’m getting more of that fantasy, with enough change and nuance that I can’t wait to see the differences from here on!
If you just sit back for the ride, you’ll have a great time! And I’ve heard that it only gets better from here!

I love where this is going!
Revisado: 03-27-24
I was a fan of book 1, book 2 had less of my attention, but this book is the one that has me hooked!
This is a good setup book for future events to take place. Yet despite it setting things up, there are some fantastic character moments that make it more interesting. I also love the wider scope of this book as it is expanding the world!
My only gripe is that there is a new-ish band of characters introduced in a very “Show, no tell” sort of way. And normally I like that, but there’s already so much going on, I personally would have liked a little more exposition on them. However, even despite that gripe, I understood their purpose by the end of the book.
I’m very much a fan of this series because of this book and I can’t wait for Michael Miller to write out his planned books 4 and 5!

A great middle book!
Revisado: 02-01-24
I will admit that this book suffers from “Middle Book syndrome”, it was very enjoyable. There are fun moments that stand out to me, and I do feel excited to read book 3!
The performance wasn’t too bad, there just weren’t a lot of different sounding voices to help me differentiate the characters.
Also, the magic is so much fun, I want to imagine myself as a character in this world!

“Just plain Awesome”
Revisado: 12-16-23
This trilogy was just a lot of fun to listen to. I feel that the conclusion well wrapped up these characters we’ve gotten to spend time with!
I will admit that there are just a couple loose threads with the story, which didn’t dampen my experience with the story.
This world just seemed fun for Brian McClellan to write and I am interested in his other novellas in the same world! This world just feels like the best Flintlock Fantasy can get!

Just fun dragon rider story!
Revisado: 12-09-23
Michael R. Miller’s intention was just to write a good, new dragon rider story and he succeeded!
Ascendant did not try to break any new grounds in the genre, yet there are so many fresh ideas to enjoy throughout the story. Though it does follow a teenage protagonist, this book never felt YA tropey.
I LOVE the magic system in this book! It has rules and limits and it makes it possible to imagine your own character in this universe. I look forward to listen to the rest of this trilogy!!

It just gets better
Revisado: 09-12-23
I already enjoyed the first book, but the second is just getting even better! I loved the development of each character, and the action dropped my jaw regularly throughout the story!
Props to Rodska as well! I wasn’t the biggest fan of his interpretations of the characters in the first book, but it was good in this book. Especially with the constantly shifting character perspectives.
