Historia
In February 2008 a casual afternoon of ice skating derailed the trip of a lifetime. Mary Morris was on the verge of a well-earned sabbatical, but instead she endured three months in a wheelchair, two surgeries, and extensive rehabilitation. On Easter Sunday, when she was supposed to be in Morocco, Morris was instead lying on the sofa reading Death in Venice, casting her eyes over these words again and again: "He would go on a journey. Not far. Not all the way to the tigers." Disaster shifted to possibility and Morris made a decision.

Big build up, no finish!
Revisado: 10-28-20
I was pleasantly surprised how smoothly the book transitioned from past to near past and the narrators voice was soothing.
The story was reminiscent of reading a wordy diary of someone’s life.
Loving animals, I wanted more tiger interaction and finally getting to the tiger scene was anti- climatic.
There were several times I found the writer to give minute details about “things” that led me to expect an event hat never materialized, leaving me to wonder.... why she included that in the book.
In conclusion, I would have liked the “diary “ to peak, at some point, with lessons learned and then her AHA learning experience, finishing the book with lessons learned or something.
The summation is: the book left me wanting to retell her story with more adventure and resolution.

WHERE HAS KELLY HARMS BEEN?
Revisado: 08-10-20
This is just the greatest story!
Fun, serious, sad and happy.
And....it wasn’t thousands of words long, with overdone, descriptive, boring adjectives confusing the plot.
It captured my attention from beginning to end.
Thanks to Audible for producing this great novella.
Kelly Harms had a god plot in mind and told it well. Bravo!,

The book you want to keep reading!
Revisado: 09-24-17
Every mother wants a son like Peter and every child wants a mom like Judy.
Full of warmth, humor, love and practical cooking advice, this book is a keeper to reread for cooking inspirations.
Now that we know Peters cats and family, he has to write more for us to live vicariously thru his words.
Thank you Peter.

Jane Austen just didn't know when to quit!
Revisado: 02-19-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I loved the reader and I'm certain she also thought this book would never end. Probably, listening to the abridged version would have made this a better experience for everyone except Austenites.
What could Jane Austen have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Quit already! I have to believe, having read most Jane Austen books, that she just kept going, thinking Emma would run out of steam or reach a big finish. It didn't happen and I found myself thinking, "haven't I heard this part before?"
Which character – as performed by Juliet Stevenson – was your favorite?
Of course everyone says Emma is their favorite character but I think her dad offered a summary of their lives every time he was in the scene. You knew before he spoke, his world was filled with fear and foreboding about rain, damp, cold, dark, carriages and so on.
What character would you cut from Emma [Naxos]?
Leaving out any character, for the sake of brevity, would have changed the world of Jane Austen. The life she lived and observed around her, is what she wrote. In a small village, the importance of "knowing everything" about everyone was as necessary to them as us listening to the news every night. The person with the most information won.
Any additional comments?
Jane Austen books are a necessity to any well read female. She ballances out the tragedy and sadness of contemporary literature with predictable characters and life of a time, place and life style that is fantasy to readers. We turn to an Austen novel much as animals hibernate, needing periods of respite from life in the fast lane.

This should be an American History Text Book!
Revisado: 02-11-17
Where does Undaunted Courage rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
My audible books fall into categories, one of them being American History. So... I can say, this is in the top five books I've heard on the Amerian west.
Would you be willing to try another book from Stephen E. Ambrose? Why or why not?
I would like another book by Ambrose but next time, I want a more complete ending. I felt as if there were things left unsaid at the end.
Have you listened to any of Cotter Smith’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes I have listened to Cotter Smith previously and when I see he is the narrator, I am comfortable with buying the audible version. I am not certain everyone puts too much thought into rehearsing and checking pronunciation of words prior to recording and Smith's dedication comes thru.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A great tag line if this were a movie would be, "what history teachers didn't tell us!"
Any additional comments?
When we are school, prior to college, most people just study for the test and a good grade. However, when a great teacher really explores the depth of a time period and has passion about it, the information stays forever. Listening to this book, I was "there" with the people, understood and felt what they did. That's what makes a good audible book!

Historia
The Chronicles of Clovis, published in 1911, was the third in Saki (H. H. Munro)'s series of very funny and very vicious stories. As an insider, Saki was ideally poised to eviscerate the Edwardian middle class way of life, and his pitiless and magnetic sense of humour - teamed with an ability to wield that sharpest of writer's tools, the (very) short story - makes these some of the funniest and most quotable of tales. All of the running themes in Saki's work are here.

Where has Saki been all my life?
Revisado: 02-11-17
Would you listen to The Chronicles of Clovis again? Why?
I recently "discovered" Saki and am surprised as a literature buff and after MANY courses in Lit., I just stumbled on him.I will keep Clovis close to me, along with other Saki books.
What other book might you compare The Chronicles of Clovis to and why?
Saki writes in a similar vein to Jerome K. Jerome in Three Men in a Boat and Stephen Fry reading any book is a bonus. (I always think I should be paying more to have such wonderful British gentleman in my home!)
Which scene was your favorite?
This is a book of short stories and therefore does not have scenes.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
no but I love the way Saki develops characters quickly so the listner feels as if they have known exactly who the character is in the story.
Any additional comments?
Selecting books for listening rather than reading becomes more complicated because, in reading it is our voice we hear and when someone elses reads to you, their personality, voice tone and pronunciation of words becomes hugely important. On more than one occasion I have sent a book back simply because the reading was so horrid.I wish there was a better screening process for selecting readers. But I LOVE Audible.com!

disappointing considering it was Paul Theroux!
Revisado: 02-20-12
What did you like best about Sunrise with Seamonsters,Pt.1? What did you like least?
There was one chapter about situations in Africa that was written so clearly, I thought I was back there reliving it but most chapters assumed the reader knew more than, at least, I did and therefore, could not hold my interest.
What could Paul Theroux have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Set the stage better for each chapter
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narrator didn't have a great deal of substance to use voice inflections and it was mostly reading the yellow pages.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
It couldn't be... no plot
Any additional comments?
Kingdom By The Sea is wonderfully written and narrated. P.T., in other books,. should not assume his audience knows more than they do. More like this!
