a great narration and a good book
Revisado: 05-17-24
this series is a little slow, but it's got a lot of great elements to it. The imagery is nice. Post apocalyptic video game western with a necromancer who likes to grow peppers? I mean, that's a fantastic image. There is character development, but not enough for how slow it moves. Somehow though it's still a great series and I'll definitely continue with the third. I think the important part is to listen to it casually instead of religiously. i think with books like this there is always a worry that it's gonna be really sexist towards women. Thankfully this series never is. There is a great mix of male and female characters, it does not focus on the suffering of the female characters, death of the baddies is pretty evenly split and all around its got green flags. ( especially considering that this author has a series about a harem- which i have not read so i don't know the context of that book- but , i was worried this was going to be negative toward women. I'm glad to be wrong.)

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

effects and cast were great, story was pretty meh
Revisado: 02-07-24
I love the effects and the cast, the sound was also well balanced (voices were not drowned out). Unfortunately, i feel like Star Wars books just never stack up. As a fantasy reader, i feel like these stories could go so super deep, and they always just scratch a tiny spot. It doesn't do it for me. Like sure, you're getting some background on some characters which is fun and cool, but if you think about characters from Joe Abercrombie or Robin Hobb... I wish the Star Wars characters would also be brought to life in that way. Oh well, it was a fun little distraction to listen to between books.

the acting is good, the story is good
Revisado: 10-07-23
All the actors do a great job in all the books in the riyia series (chronicles and Revelations). I cant imagine experiencing these stories any other way. This story specifically is my favorite so far.
I think Graphic Audio is a really cool idea. It takes a little bit to get used to hearing a book that way. Like the first book i listened to as a graphic audio was a little jarring, But once you get the hang of it, it's been an awesome experience.
the narrator took one whole book to get used to because of his tone, but once you get used to it, i couldnt imagine any other narrator, i like him.

fun and enjoyable, but definitely some issues
Revisado: 12-24-22
The use of sound effects in the writing made me giggle and roll my eyes, it just doesn't translate that well in audiobook format, to use sound effects.
The author repeats words or general concepts a bit too often, and not that much happens in the story, I got a "slice of life" vibe from it. But, it was missing some oomph.
With all that said though, the book was enjoyable. Baldree is a great narrator and the overall idea of the story is interesting. Maybe book two will really start to bring the story together some more? that happens sometimes, where you need the next book to appreciate what happened in this one.
Definitely still going to listen to book two.

weird story, narrated beautifully
Revisado: 01-22-22
The author writes sooo beautifully, and narrator was amazing. The story though? it's just so weird. Gideon was a better story, than this one. I really didn't understand what the heck was going on. I really wanted to like it, but it was "out there". 3 stars for story, 5 stars for narrator.
