What does it mean to grow up without a sense of who you are and where you come from? Julie is adopted. She’s also a twin. Because their adoption was closed, she and her sister lack both a health history and their birth parents’ names - which becomes an issue for Julie when, at 48 years old, she finds herself facing several serious health issues.

The Persistent Journey for Legitimate Rightful Answers
Revisado: 03-03-25
The details in this story kept me on the ‘inside’ of the action. I felt the disappointment when things did not go right AND I felt the tremendous exhilaration when things went well. I was so immersed in this journey it felt like it was happening to me and my family. I had no idea how complex this subject was, but now will have a much better sense of how it impacts each individual. The next time I find myself interacting with an adoptee or birth family I will rely on the examples from this book to act appropriately. Thank you.

Everyone is programmed a little differently, and Bill Gates' unique insight led to business triumphs that are now widely known: the twenty-year-old who dropped out of Harvard to start a software company that became an industry giant and changed the way the world works and lives; the billionaire many times over who turned his attention to philanthropic pursuits to address climate change, global health, and U.S. education.

Glimpse Into Home Computer's Birth
Revisado: 02-08-25
I learned so much about the details of how Microsoft came to be. The personal story of Bill Gates's growing up days was so interesting that it caused me to remember what I was doing when he was doing it. . . I loved the excitement of getting a craft computer in the mid-1970s and felt Bill's drive and determination during those times. It was also eye-opening to learn the role his father, mother, and sister played in his success. If I had only not sold the stock that many years ago . . .
Unfortunately, I found the reader to be distracting -- his sing/song delivery was annoying to me and often he would drop his voice so that I could not hear what he was saying. I would have to replay sections to try to catch the words.

Historia
The Kennedy name has long been synonymous with wealth, power, glamor, and—above all else—integrity. But this carefully constructed veneer hides a dark truth: the pattern of Kennedy men physically and psychologically abusing women and girls, leaving a trail of ruin and death in each generation’s wake. Through decades of scandal after scandal—from sexual assaults to reputational slander, suicides to manslaughter—the family and their defenders have kept the Kennedy brand intact.

Historia
Anthony Fauci is arguably the most famous–and most revered–doctor in the world today. His role guiding America sanely and calmly through Covid (and through the torrents of Trump) earned him the trust of millions during one of the most terrifying periods in modern American history, but this was only the most recent of the global epidemics in which Dr. Fauci played a major role. His crucial role in researching HIV and bringing AIDS into sympathetic public view and his leadership in navigating the Ebola, SARS, West Nile, and anthrax crises, make him truly an American hero.

Historia
Patric Gagne realized she made others uncomfortable before she started kindergarten. Something about her caused people to react in a way she didn’t understand. She suspected it was because she didn’t feel things the way other kids did. Emotions like fear, guilt, and empathy eluded her. For the most part, she felt nothing. And she didn’t like the way that “nothing” felt.

Historia
Mike Rinder’s parents began taking him to their local Scientology center when he was five years old. After high school, he signed a billion-year contract and was admitted into Scientology’s elite inner circle, the Sea Organization. Brought to founder L. Ron Hubbard’s yacht and promised training in Hubbard’s most advanced techniques, Rinder was instead put to work swabbing the decks. Still, Rinder bought into the doctrine that his personal comfort was secondary to the higher purpose of Hubbard’s world-saving mission.

Revisado: 01-10-24
I read a lot of books. This is the best memoir that I have ever listened to. Barbra not only has a wonderful singing voice — her reading voice is superb. I almost never read or listen to a book more than once, but this is one book that I will happily look forward to reading again. I feel that I have found a new friend —- I could be that lucky…

When Elon Musk was a kid in South Africa, he was regularly beaten by bullies. One day a group pushed him down some concrete steps and kicked him until his face was a swollen ball of flesh. He was in the hospital for a week. But the physical scars were minor compared to the emotional ones inflicted by his father, an engineer, rogue, and charismatic fantasist.

A beautiful story
Revisado: 06-17-23
This is a story by someone my age — I could relate totally. I share his sentiments and his experiences, albeit at a different level. I would enjoy more glimpses into his life and would have loved to hear him read the book in that oh-so familiar voice. It was a little like listening to Paul Harvey when his son filled in from time to time . . . Still good, but . . .
