Yup, father and son keeping America safe and on the right course. It’s a pretty good book that sets up The Campus and Jack Jr. into many additional episodes. Well worth your listen!

Proud to have listened to this story!

How interesting to learn of a very important time in the history of America before my birth. The Marine who lived this story gave an amazing recollection of how he survived while many of his friends died. I strongly recommend this book and I say to Marlin Groft “Thank you for your service and I hope that you rest in the afterlife in peace enjoying warms beers and telling tales with your friends”!

These stories (put together as one book) are done very well. The reviews that I read were glowing and, at first, I thought that I was tricked again. Nope. The characters get to be very real and the stories just flow. Go ahead and buy it.

I believe this is the first book by this author. I must say it was very well done. It was fresh material with a very interesting plot. The scary thing was how plausible it was in light of where America is today! I greatly look forward to book #2.

What is scary about this book is how closely it matches the stories that I have listened to from acquaintances who used to live behind the former “iron curtain “. A large portion of this book described the chaos that ensued when the Soviet Union “fell apart”. Organized crime was everywhere.
My acquaintances tell of how their families were devastated by Russian Mafia kidnapping, torturing, drugging their loved ones who were becoming successful entrepreneurs. One story ended with an injection that “fried the brain” on one business partner after he was forced to sign his business to the mobsters. His partner had his car riddled with bullets while trying to escape from Russia. Another acquaintances’ brother and his wife were burned in their home for failing to cooperate.
These stories from years ago were brought up - front and center - in my mind as I listened to the first half of this book.
It sounds unlikely and unbelievable as an American. No way could that happen. Sadly, this portrayal in this fictional tale is reality in many parts of the world. A great reminder of why real elections are so very important.

What I like about this book is that it has a different story than most action books. And it was a down-to-earth believable (more or less) story.
The characters are well developed and relatable. I think that the narration was excellent as well.

I have not listened to any Thomas Perry books before but I definitely will get another. Good characters, good story and a very good narrator made this one of the better books I have listened to in many months. Try it you'll like it!

Overall the book ended up being pretty good. However, I was not a big fan of the narrator and it seemed like The whole book was going down in flames for the first hour or two. I surprised myself by sticking with it and, in the end, I was glad that I did.

I have listened to a lot of audio books in the past three years. Some were excellent but most were mediocre. This book was solid. It was a solid story and kept my attention throughout.
