The narration was extremely boring, monotone. The plot was good, but not carrier out. Expected more from this author!

Nils Shapiro accepts what appears to be an easy, lucrative job: find out if Beverly Mayer’s grandson is foolishly throwing away his trust fund in Hollywood, especially now, in the wake of his fiancée’s tragic death. However, that easy job becomes much more complicated once Nils arrives in Los Angeles, a disorienting place where the sunshine hides dark secrets. Nils quickly suspects that Ebben Mayer’s fiancée was murdered and that Ebben himself may have been the target.

New Narrator = New Nils Shapiro
Revisado: 05-26-23
I enjoyed the first three books, but not this one. With a new Narrator came a new Nils Shapiro and not anything like what we were used to. The new Nils was not the funny sarcastic Nils of the first three books. I could barely listen to this guy. Every voice he did was bad. I wish I had just gotten the Kindle version and read it myself. Then I wouldn't have been cringing every time I listened to this narrator. The narration was so bad I had my doubts that Matt Goldman even wrote this last book. I just couldn't get into this one.

Historia
After getting canned from the Seattle PD, brilliant, wisecracking Thomas Prescott follows his sister Lacy to Philadelphia, where she swims on the Drexel University team. While Thomas’s slapstick antics mask a keen analytic mind, it’s his nose for trouble that leads him again and again into dicey situations. The ex–homicide detective is not long in Philly before getting caught up in two high-powered criminal cases. Thomas stumbles into a crime scene amid the Occupy Philadelphia protests. Activist Brooke Wexley has been strangled within sight of city hall.

I love these books; read them all. But I guess I don’t understand a prequel now, when I’m waiting for another sequel. Will there be another Thomas Prescott sequel? I sure hope so.

That’s what I had to decide. I had it all. At least that’s what people told me. Beauty, brains, and a rich husband. I deserved it too. My fiancé had cheated on me with my best friend. But, I won in the end, or at least I thought I had. Until Christmas of 1999. My ex-fiancé, Danny, showed up at my parents’ house, wanting to talk to my father. Danny’s a police officer, and my father’s a retired officer. A six-year-old girl had disappeared without a trace, resembling a case my father had worked on years earlier.

Revisado: 02-27-23
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by his writing. The story was very interesting and laid out; the characters were portrayed well; and the narration was very good. Can’t wait to read something else by Mr Williams.

Such mixed reviews!
Revisado: 06-23-22
I read dozens of reviews and put off reading this book because of the negative ones. However, I’ve never read a bad Brian Freeman book and have been pleasantly surprised when it surpasses my expectations! Therefore, I started this book with a negative expectation and kept wondering why the bad reviews! The book, of course, was excellently written, narration, of course from Joe Barrett, was excellent, and the storyline was excellent! It was hard to put the book down! Brian Freeman introduced each character, and there were many, gave them personalities, so you could see so well how they fit into the story. And, true to form, he tied everything together and left no loose ends. So, if you like Brian Freeman, this is another good one! No spoilers from me; give it a try!

So glad I didn't pay attention to some reviews . . . .
Revisado: 11-26-20
I almost didn't listen to this book after reading some of the reviews which, by the way, were either really good or really bad. Yes, there were some really gruesome and very descriptive scenes but, no more than many other serial killer books. I didn't find it a turn off as I took it for what it was. . . a very psychotic killer that is finally caught. I can't say more without spoilers. The book is also an eye opener about women and rape statistics. Beyond that, it I was a book worth reading, a story that will keep you reading and an excellent narrator. Check I try out.

Revisado: 05-28-20
Another great sequel. I love watching the way these characters have developed throughout this series. Each is independent but as a group they are unstoppable! And each one is given a special role and the story spotlights them. DI Kim Stone is spectacular as usual and the team is definitely a “WE”

The best of the sequels
Revisado: 04-17-20
My favorite; not sure there will be another sequel. Each character was portrayed so well. The story was made up of so many stories that had to be told. There was so much legal, which gave Dan a good character showing! I loved the way the author switched from present conversations to past, which really helped explain the situations! The narration was superb as usual. Overall a very good read!
