Historia
In the summer of 1974 a heatwave blankets Boston and Mary Pat Fennessey is trying to stay one step ahead of the bill collectors. Mary Pat has lived her entire life in the projects of “Southie,” the Irish American enclave that stubbornly adheres to tradition and stands proudly apart. One night Mary Pat’s teenage daughter Jules stays out late and doesn’t come home. That same evening, a young Black man is found dead, struck by a subway train under mysterious circumstances. Mary Pat, propelled by a desperate search for her daughter, begins turning over stones best left untouched.

Amazing story
Revisado: 12-30-23
I just love novels that teach us about real events. This one is about the integration of schools in Boston the the 1960s, something I did not know about. The protagonist is an Irish woman who would do anything for her children. The other main character is a police officer who interacts with her. It took me a couple of chapters to get into the book, but then I was really hooked. The character development is wonderful, and the writing of Mr Lehane makes the reader care about the two main characters. On a scale of 1-10, I give this novel a 12!!!

Historia
Judith Potts is 77 years old and blissfully happy. She lives on her own in a faded mansion just outside Marlow, there’s no man in her life to tell her what to do or how much whisky to drink, and to keep herself busy she sets crosswords for The Times newspaper. One evening, while out swimming in the Thames, Judith witnesses a brutal murder. The local police don’t believe her story, so she decides to investigate for herself and is soon joined in her quest by Suzie, a salt-of-the-earth dog-walker, and Becks, the prim and proper wife of the local vicar.

I found this “cozy” mystery refreshing because of the unusual main characters. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. I can’t wait for the second book in this series!

Historia
On the muddy banks of the Calumet River, a body has been found posed next to a series of mysterious glyphs and bearing wounds from a ritualistic slaying. Chicago detective Addie Bisset knows only one man who can decipher the message left by the killer: her friend Dr. Evan Wilding. A brilliant forensic semiotician, Evan decodes the etchings as Viking Age runes. They suggest either human sacrifice or righteous punishment. But to what god? And for what sins? Only one thing is clear from the disturbing runic riddles: there are more victims to come.

Surprisingly entertaining!
Revisado: 05-16-22
It took me a little bit (~2 chapters) to get into it, but I ended up enjoying it immensely. I did get lost listening to the history of the Vikings and Norse gods, but it really didn’t matter. I am more driven by the characters, and these characters were very different, interesting, and entertaining. I can’t wait for the second book in this series to come out!

Historia
Trust is a delicate thing, and no one knows that better than Rosalind Thorne. Lady Melbourne has entrusted her with recovering a packet of highly sensitive private letters stolen from her desk. The contents of these letters hold great interest for the famous poet Lord Byron, who had carried on a notorious public affair with Lady Melbourne's daughter-in-law, the inconveniently unstable Lady Caroline Lamb. Rosalind is to take up residence in Melbourne House, posing as Lady Melbourne's confidential secretary. There, she must discover the thief and regain possession of the letters.

A great read if you enjoy British Regency history!
Revisado: 06-09-21
This is the 3rd Rosalind Thorne mystery to which I have listened. I used to read Regency romances in my youth and loved reading about Almack’s, the Prince Regent, etc. These books are the first to give historical facts for the reasons behind the customs of the times and I love that! Plus they are delightful light mysteries with hints of romance. Great entertainment!!! And well written! Kudos to Darcie Wilde!!!!!

Although JD Kirk’s books stories are enthralling, Angus King’s narration brings Mr Kirk’s colorful characters to life. Listening to the audible books in this series is some if the best entertainment I have ever experienced.

So very entertaining!
Revisado: 02-11-21
The prose of the author is engaging, and at times just hilarious. The narrator is a master creating each character through his skill of different accents and vocal acrobatics. I will truly go into a deep depression when I finish all of the current Inspector Logan books.

Historia
When Pentagon bioterror operative Roberto Diaz was sent to investigate a suspected biochemical attack, he found something far worse: a highly mutative organism capable of extinction-level destruction. He contained it and buried it in cold storage deep beneath a little-used military repository. Now, after decades of festering in a forgotten sub-basement, the specimen has found its way out and is on a lethal feeding frenzy. Only Diaz knows how to stop it.

This book was delightful and kept me entertained the whole way through. I found myself laughing aloud many times due to the characters’ dialog, and the narrator was amazing. I could tell which character was speaking by the inflections, tones and accents given by the narrator Rupert Friend. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for something a bit different and extraordinarily well done.

Historia
A naturalist who spent months at a time living on her own among wild creatures in remote jungles, Sy Montgomery had always felt more comfortable with animals than with people. So she gladly opened her heart to a sick piglet who had been crowded away from nourishing meals by his stronger siblings. Yet Sy had no inkling that this piglet, later named Christopher Hogwood, would not only survive but flourish.
