MacArthur explains what being a true Christian really means and what a false Christian looks like. In our era of easy-believeism and Megachurch self-help sermons void of any gospel truth, calls to repentance or warnings of hell which have created a plethora of false converts, this is the message they need to hear to awaken them out of their stupor to reality!

This book is a great encouragement to all Christians and an admonition to live holy lives. To walk in a manner worthy of the calling we have received, in a manner pleasing in His sight. And a reminder that there is no such thing as justification without sanctification.

Absolutely every Christian should read this book!

I had really great expectations for this book however, they fell flat. The author apparently claims not to be a liberal and yet is a complete liberal so-called theologian. The author promotes the idea of not trusting in the Scriptures, saying the stories either are myths or possibly myths and never to be taken literally etc.
The author claims homosexuality is OK and Hell is not real.
It’s clear from this book that the author is not in fact a Christian and doesn’t believe or trust in the Word or the Word that became flesh and dwelt among men. If you’re a born-again Christian do not waste your time with this one.

As the spouse of a covert narcissistic wife who is duped into marrying this abusive, psychotic person I came to this book hoping for godly answers. While I can certainly appreciate the biblical insight into narcissism he didn’t really have an answer besides endure the abuse. Scripture certainly does tell us to endure persecution for Christ’s sake but not to simply endure abuse just for abuse sake. The author goes so far as to say “get creative“ in being abused by the narcissist. Get creative? How about get away? In Proverbs Solomon says it’s better to live on the roof then with a contrary woman. What do you means is it’s better to be homeless! That means get out of there. God hates divorce no doubt. But God hates the abuse of his children more. And God certainly works all things together for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose. But that does not mean he has called us to simply endure abuse at the hands of a sadistic abuser. Likely, he has called us to this abusive relationship to be able to help others who have gone through in it and have been cast aside by the church. So that we can help others going through similar situations. And whoever says “I don’t see abuse as a reason for divorce in the Bible“ go and learn what this means “I desire mercy and not a sacrifice.”

Pink makes the best case for dispensationalism you are likely to hear. Even though I disagree with the position, it is presented in a well thought-out manner with all of the possible prima facia backing you are likely to find.

A Painfully Boring Whitewash of History

If you actually manage to get through this painfully boring lecture you will learn almost nothing of consequence, mostly just numerous trivial details. The author/narrator seems to only give a cursory wink and the true intention of the Council which was to answer the Reformation with a set of heretical creeds declaring that violation of any would result in the person(s) being anathematized. The author/narrator seems more inclined to mostly ignore the blasphemy that came out this antichrist council.

I suppose I should have known better since the author/narrator is a Catholic Priest but I figured I'd give him the benefit of the doubt in hoping for candor and sincerity. Those hopes fell flat. I suppose it would be like asking a Nazi if Hitler had won WWII what the war was about. Although Rome didn't win the "war" and thank God that people got away from their tyranny.
My advice, don't waste your time here, get a different book.

Outstanding presentation of the true Gospel of Christ! A refreshing, objective look at the actual teachings of Jesus Himself instead of the watered down, seeker sensitive gospel presented in nearly all churches today across America. Highly recommend this book!
