Historia
As a young boy sitting at a sewing machine in home economics class, Craig Conover had no idea that this hobby would one day change his life for the better. Growing up in Delaware, Conover experienced cruel bullying and suffered from severe anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder. But while law school in Charleston seemed to provide the direction he needed, Conover spent years searching for meaning and passion in life. The chance to become a cast member on Bravo’s Southern Charm promised to provide that.

Not as uplifting/introspective as I had hoped.
Revisado: 02-07-24
Craig has come a long way on the show, but I think that might be for the cameras only. Or perhaps it’s Paige’s influence, but he didn’t discuss their relationship here so I can’t really say. He comes off as very self-centered here, still making excuses for his behavior, but as someone who has ADHD myself, I can cut him a little slack as I understand some of the things, like procrastination that annoy his business partners. He’s also not the greatest narrator, often shouting for no reason which makes it hard to listen to. I’d suggest you save your credit and buy the paperback next time it’s on sale.

Historia
Despite advances in health care, infectious microbes continue to be a formidable adversary to scientists and doctors. Vaccines and antibiotics, the mainstays of modern medicine, have not been able to conquer infectious microbes because of their amazing ability to adapt, evolve, and spread to new places. Terrorism aside, one of the greatest dangers from infectious disease we face today is from a massive outbreak of drug-resistant microbes.

Narrator kills it
Revisado: 11-11-23
Seems to be well researched and is likely a book I would have finished in a day or two had I been reading it. Unfortunately, the awful narration ruined it and it took me a few weeks to plod through it. If you’re not in the medical field you’ll likely miss the mispronunciations, but the monotonous tone dulls the delivery. Suggest listening at 1.5x speed.

Historia
One morning, Tophs, Taylor Harris’ round-cheeked, lively 22-month-old, wakes up listless, only lifting his head to gulp down water. She rushes Tophs to the doctor, ignoring the part of herself, trained by years of therapy for generalized anxiety disorder, that tries to whisper that she’s overreacting. But at the hospital, her maternal instincts are confirmed: something is wrong with her boy, and Taylor’s life will never be the same.

Moving story, but narration is distracting.
Revisado: 07-28-23
I think this book is better read than listening to because the narrator has an odd habit of flip-flopping the pronunciation of Toph’s name. Sometimes it’s a hard “O”, other times the emphasis isn’t there and it sounds like a completely different name. She does it with a few other words, but it’s most noticeable with his name and quite distracting.

To be honest I was expecting more Bon Qui Qui and less Anjelah Johnson, but I wasn’t disappointed at all. She’s honest and I loved that she wasn’t afraid to share about when she started to question that once been set in stone regarding her faith and other beliefs.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Not the ending I hoped for.
Revisado: 01-27-23
I knew how it turned out, but I was hoping that would be a positive experience. Tabor/Mata’s owner is really unlikable and I have to question the sanity of someone who loses his cat TWICE and then continues to let her outside. She would have been better off continuing her journey on the road with Michael. I’m glad she came into his life when she did and I hope he’s doing alright.

This book isn’t the farming memoir I thought it would be and is instead a how-to guide and it’s wonderful, but I suggest reading it rather than listening to it as it is a lot to take in.

Three out of four people addicted to heroin probably started on a prescription opioid, according to the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In the United States alone, 16,000 people die each year as a result of prescription opioid overdose. But perhaps the most frightening aspect of the prescription drug epidemic is that it's built on well-meaning doctors treating patients with real problems.

At first glance, Josh Hanagarne seems an improbable librarian. He stands 6'7", competes in strongman contests, and was diagnosed in high school with Tourette's syndrome. But books are his first love - Josh's earliest memories involve fantastic adventures between the pages of Gulliver’s Travels and a passionate infatuation with Fern from Charlotte’s Web. Everything in Josh’s life - from his Mormon upbringing, to finally finding love, to learning to control his tics through lifting - circles back to a close connection with books.

Revisado: 01-10-23
I have a bad habit of stockpiling books when they’re on sale so I didn’t remember buying it, but I’m glad I did. As a fellow book-loving outcast this book spoke to me on many levels. Though difficult at times, it was a heartwarming listen overall and I appreciate how vulnerable and open he was about struggling with his tics, his family, and his faith.

Not a complete waste of a credit, but a big disappointment
Revisado: 11-29-22
Like many, I first came to know Mr. Perry as Chandler on Friends and then absolutely loved him in The Odd Couple. I was aware of his struggles and wanted to hear his story, but I think it’s probably one that didn’t need to be written. Or at least not until he’s had more time to reflect and heal. He is still very bitter and resentful and it was hard to listen to. My partner has many of the same issues and has struggled greatly to stay sober and I was hoping there might be a sense of hope with this book, something I could take away to help him, but this is nothing but despair. I applaud his efforts at honesty, though I don’t think he is still 100% honest with himself, but this is not a book I will be recommending to anyone.
