Historia
From trips on private jets and encounters with world leaders to shocking accounts of misogyny and double standards behind the scenes, this searing memoir exposes both the personal and the political fallout when unfettered power and a rotten company culture take hold. In a gripping and often absurd narrative where a few people carelessly hold the world in their hands, this eye-opening memoir reveals what really goes on among the global elite.

A true indictment of social media
Revisado: 04-14-25
Everyone of a certain age remembers life before Facebook. Yes, connections were made in a truly organic way but Facebook created something different. A real genie granting wishes of full social connectivity. Sometimes, letting the genie out of the bottle can be a bad thing. This book allows the world to see what happens when real power doesn't equal real responsibility. it's a sad story and very glad Wynn-Williams was able to bring it to the world's attention.

The book is a good instruction to the next steps we should all take in life. All humans age, decline and must make peace with it. Making a change in my thinking is the first and best thing I took from his illuminating journey. I enjoyed this book.

speechless
Revisado: 08-24-24
As an African-American living a comfortable life, with every conceivable electronic device at my fingertips, a feeling of guilt washes over me. The current state of the DRC is both shocking and expected.
When will a corporation, a CEO, a foundation or an activist step forward and demand change? Since there are literally billions of dollars at stake, probably none will. Because there is nothing for them to gain except, maybe justice and equality. Is a life in the Congo equal to a life in Cupertino? Will it ever be? Will anyone hear this story and evoke change? The term is "See something, say something." In this case, every one sees and every one says nothing.

Historia
Part memoir, part history, Burn Book is a necessary chronicle of tech’s most powerful players. This is the inside story we’ve all been waiting for about modern Silicon Valley and the biggest boom in wealth creation in the history of the world. When tech titans crowed that they would “move fast and break things,” Kara Swisher was moving faster and breaking news. While covering the explosion of the digital sector in the early 1990s, she developed a long track record of digging up and reporting the facts about this new world order.

Historia
Scientology, created in 1954 by a prolific sci-fi writer named L. Ron Hubbard, claims to be the world's fastest-growing religion, with millions of members around the world and huge financial holdings. Its celebrity believers keep its profile high, and its teams of "volunteer ministers" offer aid at disaster sites such as Haiti and the World Trade Center. But Scientology is also a notably closed faith, harassing journalists and others through litigation and intimidation, even infiltrating the highest levels of government to further its goals.

Highly informative
Revisado: 07-09-24
Great reporting, storytelling and delivery. This was a revelation. A cult formed by a chaletan, run by a brutal childish dictator and you have this so-called religion. I really hope these lost people who feel money supercedes logic can someday understand the lie they are being told but I doubt it will ever happen. Great book. Reads like a detective story unearthing all that the public needs to know.

Historia
Begin Again is one of the great books on James Baldwin and a powerful reckoning with America’s ongoing failure to confront the lies it tells itself about race. Just as in Baldwin’s “after times,” argues Eddie S. Glaude Jr., when white Americans met the civil rights movement’s call for truth and justice with blind rage and the murders of movement leaders, so in our moment were the Obama presidency and the birth of Black Lives Matter answered with the ascendance of Trump and the violent resurgence of white nationalism.

As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. Historia
Francis Ford Coppola is one of the great American dreamers, and his most magnificent dream is American Zoetrope, the production company he founded in San Francisco years before his gargantuan success, when he was only thirty. Through Zoetrope’s experimental, communal utopia, Coppola attempted to reimagine the entire pursuit of moviemaking. Now, more than fifty years later, despite myriad setbacks, the visionary filmmaker’s dream persists, most notably in the production of his decades-in-the-making film and the culmination of his utopian ideals, Megalopolis.

It is not everyday you can listen to a book that reaffirms our own path in life. Coppola's zest for life is contagious and anyone with the desire to create should read about his life and passions. You will soon realize we only live once so we must make the most of it.

Instead of focusing on one service, like HBO, Pandora’s Box asks, “What did HBO do, besides give us The Sopranos?” The answer: It gave us a revolution. Biskind bites off a big chunk of entertainment history, following HBO from its birth into maturity, moving on to the basic cablers like FX and AMC, and ending up with the streamers and their wars, pitting Netflix against Amazon Prime Video, Max, and the killer pluses—Disney, Apple TV, and Paramount.

Great
Revisado: 11-17-23
I really enjoyed this book. I think it was a great overview of what exactly is going on in Hollywood right now. And in the end it's hard to know what will happen. But it's clear to everyone that Hollywood does not care as much for what it puts out. As opposed to how much money it really wants to make.
