Historia
Dashing detective Lord Peter Wimsey is caught up in the murder trial of mystery writer Harriet Vane. Her fiance has died of poisoning exactly as described in one of Harriet's novels, so naturally she is the prime suspect. Will she be convicted and executed for the crime, or can he save her life and win her hand in marriage?

What a delight!
Revisado: 07-19-23
Ian Carmichael is an orator. He brings language to life. Although the recording is old and super low-fi, its a pleasure to hear him read this fabulous murder mystery containing all the urbane humor Dorothy L Sayers is famous for.

Historia
At the dawn of the last millennium in the year 1000, Europe was one of the world's more stagnant regions-an economically undeveloped, intellectually derivative, and geopolitically passive backwater, with illiteracy, starvation, and disease the norm for almost everyone. Yet only three centuries later, all of this had changed.

Great lecture series!
Revisado: 05-31-23
Philip Daileader does a wonderful job of surveying the Middle Ages. He is funny and charming to listen to and does a good good of illuminating the “work” of history (and of historians) - I.e. history’s bias, it’s responses to the contemporary, etc…

Historia
For an instant the two trains ran together, side by side. In that frozen moment, Elspeth witnessed a murder. Helplessly, she stared out of her carriage window as a man remorselessly tightened his grip around a woman's throat. The body crumpled. Then the other train drew away. But who, apart from Miss Marple, would take her story seriously? After all, there were no suspects, no other witnesses...and no corpse. This title was previously published as What Mrs. McGrillicuddy Saw!

Excellent comfort food
Revisado: 05-11-23
As an Agatha Christy fan, I’ve read many a murder mystery. This one offers a relaxing pleasure : neither extremely suspenseful nor touched by elements of horror. Charming female characters, their relationships and perspectives is central. A fun, and well paced mystery unfolds. Performance is terrific. Nice to hear a woman read AG.

Gripping and well realized
Revisado: 04-27-23
Shardlake is a totally compelling character: a complex man who yet possesses the only real morality in a wickedly fun world of court intrigue, delinquent abbeys, Bedlam and heresy.
I feel like I sort of lived through the Protestant revolution (in England) by listening to this. I mean this as a compliment.
Also ! An incredible cast and production. Great sound design.
Not totally sure about the depiction of gay / lgbtq characters. There is a cool trans Joan-of-arc-like soldier.
Overall - very fun mystery thriller!
