I’m enjoying feel good stories that can remind me that loving relationships happen. It is such a nice contrast to the hate on center stage.

Just not my cup of lesbian drama

I do not like psychological thrillers. I could have stopped at chapter 1 when I realized my mistake, but was looking for a good lesbian romance plot and gave it a listen… sort of. I played it at 1.5 speed and finally got to a point where I just skipped several chapters at a time and listened to the end.
Retrospectively, I should have stopped at chapter 1 and moved on to another book.
But if you like psychological thrillers you might like it more than I did.

What’s not to love!

This is one of my favorite series. Yes, I am a tech geek and enjoy the humor, but what I really like is the feel good arc of these stories.

I finished it, but probably should not have. Abby is the only reason I finished it. The story was weak and the characters brittle.

It had been a very long time since I read the original books. To long to retain context. I think I missed significant nuances because of that gap. The narration is good, just not great.

I like these perspective books and this one did not disappoint. It was, perhaps not reflective of the real world—more like extra whip cream and a cherry on your favorite ice cream.

A twist, and a happy ending

I read the book about a young Beebo first. I think that colors your interpretation of the other books. But it does give the Beebo in this book more depth of character and importance. Still I liked the Standalone Beebo book best. Easier for to indentify with that person's journey.

A very good pulp adaptation of hard times

I will honestly say I skimmed through some sections that dragged out the camp/pulp drama, but I agree with the author and the person she mentioned who said this was a masterpiece for its time. It took on the topics of race, gay people as prospective parents, the rampant use and abuse of alcohol in the gay community and domestic violence decades before they came to the forefront of other fiction writers or academia. But at the heart of it was the story of loves ebbing tides and relationships over time and the desire/need to feel the spark of new exciting love – even when you know better.

Not the easiest read - but I think brighter times are ahead for our beloved characters.

Glad I read Beebo Brinker first

I enjoyed this, but it was not as much fun as Beebo and doesn't hold up quite as well.
The abusive father sub-plot was a annoying. I ff through it.
