Oh Stricken, you crafty devil!
Revisado: 08-29-22
I have loved the Monster Hunter series since I began reading the first book, which introduced Owen Z. Pitt. Having just finished this 8th book in the story line I can honestly say the quality in both story and narration is still going strong and I can't wait for book 9 and Julie's reaction to Stricken's bombshell. I shall say no more! 👍👍👍👍👍

Glad I took the chance on this one.

A numberof people have commented on the difficulty of following a story which bounces from character to character but I found that to be one of the things which gave this novel exactly what it needed to provide a sense of reality to the tale. To appreciate this story you need to have enough imagination to see the lead character (Will) as less a man than a universal concept given human form; if you can do that you too will enjoy this book from start to finish.
Each of the narrators did a phenomenal job, allowing no doubt as to which you were listening to, if there is ever a second book in this series I will snap it up in a hearbeat.
Lastly, some members of the Faith may be offended by several of the thoughts expressed in this book. I would tell you only to remain open minded and accept that no history or religious culture is as perfect or innocent as we would wish them to be and each is often used to benefit the entity itself. This book simply offers potential alternatives, read it with an open mind and a grain of salt.

For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

Revisado: 05-21-21
There are so many books available in the audio format these days which are lessened by the lack of a good narrator but that was not the case with The Wizard's Butler. The narration was truly enjoyable and complemented the storyline line beautifully.
I was expecting another, typical "wizardy" book and was immediately proven wrong. This is a well written story you can immerse yourself in for a bit of fun; I recommend it to anyone who wants a pleasant, well written, narrative.

Main character not my cup of tea.
Revisado: 03-10-21
First and foremost, I felt the narrator did a very nice job differentiating between the characters and this was a pleasant book to listen to. That having been said; I found the main character was just too condescending, to the other characters in the book as well as to the reader/listener. For me this series is finished.

Not up to usual standards
Revisado: 08-21-19
I am a huge fan of the Monster Hunter series and have read & re-read all of the books several times; the characters seem like old friends at this point. Unfortunately I think Mr. Correia may not have had the majority input in this novel and for me it missed the mark by a wide margin. The main character is a woman whos is normally as tough as Kevlar yet in this book she spends the majority of her time whining and referring to her infant son as her "kid", which became annoying very quickly and demonstrated that whomever was writing the majority of this book didn't put in the effort to maintain the personalities of the characters as portrayed in previous books and seemed almost as though the author hadn't read the first six books or the Memoirs series.
The narrator was suitable for the quality of the writing but not for the MHI series (sorry).
The next sentence is a spoiler so stop reading now if you don't want to ruin a surprise.
The best part of the book? The return of Mr. TrashBags, of course.

Revisado: 03-26-19
This book did a great job of linking MHI's history with the present day hunters and having Earl finish this last memoir was absolutely the way it needed to end. I will be devastated if this is the last we hear of MHI, there are still so many stories to tell: the first year's of MHI, the years spent overseas, little Miss Gardenier's story even. Please, please, please keep writing these books!

Loved the story but....
Revisado: 11-23-18
This was a fun book to listen to but John Scalzi unfortunately fell victim to what I call the Agatha Christie dilemma; he said; she said, you said, I said, they said. You get the idea. No-one 'states', no one 'comments' If I had a sip of wine every time Mr. Scalzi uses the word 'said' I would die of alcohol poisoning. That having been 'said', Mr. Scalzi has a wonderful imagination and great sense of humour.
I've heard Will Wheaton narrate a numbr of audio books and he can make the TV Guide sound fun so If you can get past a slight lack of imaginitive dialogue you'll love this book.

I laughed out loud when I listened to this book!
Revisado: 06-05-18
I don't write a lot of reviews, I'm not the most prosaic individual but I know what I like and this book hit all tens with me. I don't know whether to give the majority of credit to the author or the narrator but between them they created this masterpiece of fiction. Favourite character? Wendell the Manatee; despite not being able to translate manatee and Wendell not being able to speak English just thinking of him makes me giggle. All the pop culture references in this novel had me listening to it asecond time to make sure I didn't miss anything and I have to say I laughed harder the second time I heard it. Thank you, Adam Baldwin, for creating the personalities for all the characters with such unique traits (the General with the white board was a beautifully portrayed nutter!) and thank you Larry Correai for the self-mocking humour which actually makes me wonder if you're a fellow Canuck. Listen to this book, people, you won't regret it!

This book was excellent on its own merit but the narration put it over the top. I've listened to many books where you had to concentrate to figue out which character was 'speaking' but not with Jefferson Mays' rendition. Job well done Misters Corey & Mays!

Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder.... Jodi Taylor brings all her comic writing skills to this heartwarming tale of self-discovery. Known as The Nothing Girl because of her severe stutter and chronically low self-confidence, Jenny Dove is only just prevented from ending it all by the sudden appearance of Thomas, a mystical golden horse only she can see. Revisado: 11-23-17
I am a huge fan of the St. Mary’s Chronicles and began listening to The Nothing Girl with a bit of trepidation, it promised to be a little less quirky and a bit more down to Earth (other than the Thomas, of course!) but I quickly realized Jodi Taylor had once again created beautifully flawed, endearing characters who wrapped you up in their story from the first paragraph. On my bucket list? Meeting Jodi Taylor!
