Historia
Tracing the migrations of the Denisovans and their interbreeding with Neanderthals and early human populations in Asia, Europe, Australia, and the Americas, Andrew Collins and Greg Little explore how the new mental capabilities of the Denisovan-Neanderthal and Denisovan-human hybrids greatly accelerated the flowering of human civilization over 40,000 years ago. They show how the Denisovans displayed sophisticated advances, including precision-machined stone tools and jewelry, tailored clothing, celestially-aligned architecture, and horse domestication.

Pseudoscience at it's best
Revisado: 03-20-24
If you are a believer in the mystical, magical powers of the ancients than this is the book for you. If you prefer factual, reproduceable scientific conclusions than don't bother with this book. Narration is flat and droning. Hate that I wasted a credit on it.

Historia
Professor Timothy R. Pauketat illuminates the riveting discovery of the largest pre-Columbian city on U.S. soil. Once a flourishing metropolis of 20,000 people in 1050, Cahokia had rotted away by 1400. Its earthen mounds near modern-day St. Louis reveal “woodhenges” and evidence of large-scale human sacrifice.

Dry and tedious
Revisado: 11-12-23
Narration is very dry and flat as is the content. I love anything historical and have listened to many audio books and great courses. The author repeats the same details and descriptions over and over without providing any new information or insight.

These are the stories that defy conventional logic. The proverbial vanished without a trace incidences, which happen a lot more (and a lot closer to your backyard) than almost anyone thinks. These are the missing whose situations are the hardest on loved ones left behind. The cases that are an embarrassment for park superintendents, rangers, and law enforcement charged with Search & Rescue.

To much mixing of stories
Revisado: 07-12-23
Rather than completing the story of each event, the author bounces back and forth between the stories. This becomes a confusing muddle of people, places, speculations and yarns. I felt almost like I needed to take notes to keep up with who was who and where we were in each story line.

Historia
On June 22, 1954, teenage friends Juliet Hulme - better known as best-selling mystery writer Anne Perry - and Pauline Parker went for a walk in a New Zealand park with Pauline’s mother, Honora. Half an hour later, the girls returned alone, claiming that Pauline’s mother had had an accident. But when Honora Parker was found in a pool of blood with the brick used to bludgeon her to death close at hand, Juliet and Pauline were quickly arrested, and later confessed to the killing.

Revisado: 01-27-22
Saw a lot of negative reviews but I thought it was a good book and the narration was much better than some others I’ve listened too. Only thing was a little too much detail on some of the ancillary characters backgrounds - seemed like filler but still worth listening too.

Revisado: 11-23-21
Rehash of many other such books but with very poor fact checking and disregard for modern archaeological and scientific findings. Based on theories from 30 years ago. Narrator clearly does not believe what he is reading - sarcastic tone sounding like Moira Schitt.

Here is a gripping account of the major postwar trial of the Nazi hierarchy in World War II. The Nuremberg Trial brilliantly recreates the trial proceedings and offers a reasoned, often profound examination of the processes that created international law. From the whimpering of Kaltenbrunner and Ribbentrop on the stand to the icy coolness of Goering, each participant is vividly drawn.

Historia
For the past few hundred years, most of what we’ve been taught about the native cultures of North America came from reports authored by the conquerors and colonizers who destroyed them. Now - with the technological advances of modern archaeology and a new perspective on world history - we are finally able to piece together their compelling true stories. In Ancient Civilizations of North America, Professor Edwin Barnhart, Director of the Maya Exploration Center, will open your eyes to a fascinating world you never knew existed - even though you’ve been living right next to it, or even on top of it.

Historia
Widely recognized as one of literature's most gripping ghost stories, this classic tale of moral degradation concerns the sinister transformation of two innocent children into flagrant liars and hypocrites. The story begins when a governess arrives at an English country estate to look after Miles, aged 10, and Flora, eight. At first, everything appears normal, but then events gradually begin to weave a spell of psychological terror.

Historia
Finding and identifying a pirate ship is the hardest thing to do under the sea. But two men—John Chatterton and John Mattera—are willing to risk everything to find the Golden Fleece, the ship of the infamous pirate Joseph Bannister. At large during the Golden Age of Piracy in the seventeenth century, Bannister should have been immortalized in the lore of the sea—his exploits more notorious than Blackbeard’s, more daring than Kidd’s. But his story, and his ship, have been lost to time.

Not the best, not the worst book I’ve read. Would have preferred more focus on the wreck itself and less personal history of the characters. Could have done without the narrators various voices. - found them distracting.
