Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Not worthy iof Stephen King
Revisado: 10-09-22
Started out okay and kept me interested but as soon as Charlie went below the story just got silly. Made- up words nonsensical made it impossible to picture people and things. By the time Charlie finally escaped the castle I just wanted it to end. The chapters after that we’re almost impossible to get through. If it hadn’t been Stephen King I would’ve never finished it. What a disappointment

Historia
When a high-powered gallery owner collides with a wildly offbeat artist, it's the perfect recipe for disaster. But in her 63rd best-selling novel, Danielle Steel proves that when two hopelessly mismatched people share a love for art, a passion for each other, and a city like Paris, nothing is truly impossible...or is it? Everything Sasha does is within the boundaries of tradition. Liam is sockless in December. While the two are utterly unalike - and a nine-year age difference stares them squarely in the face - the miracle of art brings them crashing together.

Done with Danielle Steele
Revisado: 01-30-22
This was one of the worst books I’ve ever suffered through. The only reason I didn’t toss it after the 1st three chapters is b/c I kept thinking surely it would get better. I’ve read dozens of Danielle Steele books and enjoyed almost all. This was uninspired, predictable, and dull. It may very well be the last Danielle Steele book I ever read.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Immediately captivating
Revisado: 01-10-20
I loved this book - couldn't put it down. I immediately connected with the 2 main characters, Maeve and Danny who we meet as children and follow their lives into middle age and death. The house is at the center of the story, but the characters' lives, the family dysfunction, the memories that frequently differ from Maeve to Danny, these are the pillars of the story that I became so fascinated with. The ordinary and the surprising events of their lives were so well detailed that I kept wanting to know more. I loved the bond between the two, the devotion to each other. I appreciated the insight of the male perspective and the often surprising perspective of Maeve. I didn't understand the actions of their mother, and of course disliked immensely the deranged stepmother. The story concludes in a way that warmed my heart, and again, I found myself wishing I knew Danny personally. I certainly loved having Tom Hanks narrate- who doesn't love Tom Hanks' voice, but even that couldn't have lifted up a poorly written or not compelling story. Ann Patchett has a new fan.
