Not as good as I remember

I read these books when I was a teenager and was a big fan. I still like the overall story of the books. I don’t think that some of the stories have aged well with time. The mentally abusive relationship of Peregrine and her lover is one of those stories. The characters that I found most intriguing were Xavier Desmond, and the puppet master. Xavier has such a sadness to him, which the narrator portrays well, that I find very intriguing. The internal turmoil with the puppet master is just as engaging. Other than that, many of the other characters I found lackluster. I agree with some of the other reviews that some of the choices made for the narrators really did not make sense.

Decent story but was not a fan of most narrators

I read this entire series when I was a teenager. I remember liking the series but this was not my favorite one. The story as a whole was fine but I never particularly liked Jack’s or Bagabond’s storyline. The female narrators were not great. One of them felt like listening to a kindergarten teacher reading to her students.

I enjoyed it but there were problems

First of all, I did enjoy this book and finished it in about 3 days. The plot and some of the ideas are interesting. The narrator felt like listening to Snagglepuss from Hanna-Barbera and that was distracting. Also, I don’t really know what to make of a book where the story feels like it is meant for a younger audience, but there are graphic sex scenes scattered throughout the book. I feel like the author needed to choose one way or another. It is possible that the feeling of the story being written for a younger audience had more to do with the comment I made above about the narrator, but it gave it a feel like young children should be listening to it.

Excellent second book

Really enjoyed this

I got this because of the strong reviews. I really liked the concept behind it and the overall feel of the story. I had no problems staying focused on the book, which I have had with other books recently. The story also stays focused without a lot of trivial subplots, which I appreciated. I am glad that I purchased this.

Good story but had a hard time paying attention to it

This is one of the rare times that I liked the show better than I liked the book. I had a hard time keeping my focus on the book and found myself drifting quite frequently. The story is a decent story and clearly it translated well into a show, but I just couldn’t get into this book the way I expected.

Slow but well written

This is the start of a great series

It is hard finding books that capture my interest let alone entire series. This book slowly builds a universe that is intriguing. The main character, who basically starts out as nothing, slowly grows to be one of the most powerful characters in the world if not more. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a new series to enjoy.

Excellent job, Maggie

I have listened to a number of books about former President Trump. To be honest, I have been exhausted by listening to other books. When I saw that Maggie Haberman had written a book about Donald Trump, I knew that I had to hear it because she is an excellent reporter who has been able to see Donald Trump with a unique point of view. Listening to this book and someways felt like reliving Donald Trump‘s presidency but I am glad that I listened to it.
