While the world seems to be in love with the idea of tiny houses and minimalism, many of us simply can't purge it all and start from nothing. Yet a home with too much stuff is difficult to maintain, so where do we begin? Add in paralyzing emotional attachments and constant life challenges, and it can feel almost impossible to make real decluttering progress.

Sensible, useful advice for people who struggle with this topic
Revisado: 01-18-25
Dana K White doesn’t declutter for fun, or because it gives her a rush, or because she has nothing she’d rather do. It didn’t come naturally to her. Her wisdom is personal and hard won. Her methods work for me, when I apply them. I read her first book grudgingly because someone I love said they thought it would help with a problem I was actively trying to solve. I dragged myself through it. I’m kind of irritated that it worked. But now I listen to her podcast each week because, whether I want to think about it or not, it’s something I have to stay mindful of. This book was no different. As a podcast listener, I could have told you everything in this book, but it’s helpful to have it all in one place, logically organized, and boiled down a bit. If you’re not a natural neatnik, if you’re frustrated and overwhelmed, try her methods. Not one fun thing about it— no magic bullets— but if you’re serious, she gives you an easy to follow process that will reduce your frustration and overwhelm and, if you stick with it, make lasting change.

Historia
In spite of the hyper-connected culture we live in today, women still feel shamed for oversharing and being publicly vulnerable. And no matter how many friends we seem to have, many of us are still desperately lonely. Laura Tremaine, blogger and podcaster behind 10 Things to Tell You, says it's time for something better. Openness and vulnerability are the foundation for human growth and healthy relationships, and it all starts when we share our stuff, the nitty-gritty daily details about ourselves with others.

Better than I expected
Revisado: 02-03-23
I kind of bought this to be nice— I follow a bunch of podcasters who are friends with the author and who were promoting her book for pre-sale, and so I went ahead and bought it, and have just not done anything with it for almost two years. It seemed like a foolish decision for a long time. But once I got into it, I related more deeply than I expected to. I think I’ll go back and write out my answers over time. It might not have fit me then, but it seems to now.

Historia
As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was fourteen, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than twenty years of activism.

There’s a reason I’ve been a fan from the first time I heard them
Revisado: 12-23-22
I was almost certainly going to like this no matter what, but it’s so much more than it had to be. Warm, personal, spiritual, poetic, funny, historical, reflective. When I got it, I wondered if I’d finish it, at this length. When I finished it, I was glad I bought it, because I’ll definitely listen again.

Does not disappoint
Revisado: 06-05-22
I’ve been a raving fan of Kendra’s since the second I heard about her from the Pantsuit Politics ladies years ago, and I love her insight and compassion. I love that she doesn’t teach her way, she helps you think through what will work for you in a generous, clear, and thorough manner. I’ve got both of her books on both audio and in print— her narration is comforting, amusing, and warm, but you need the book for quick reference, because the instructions are invaluable.
