Alison has put together a fantastic book which will literally make you laugh out loud! In spite of some brutal experiences, she has managed to keep her sense of humor intact. Highly recommended.

Historia
Mollie left school at age fourteen and became a scullery maid for a wealthy gentleman with a mansion house in London's Knightsbridge and a Tudor manor in Norfolk. Even though her days were long and grueling and included such endless tasks as polishing doorknobs, scrubbing steps, and helping with all of the food prep in the kitchen, Mollie enjoyed her freedom and had a rich life.

As a Downton Abbey fan and a fan of that era, this was a marvelous listen. Molly's account of her life in public service is never dull! From varying bosses, to adventures, friends, boys/men and plenty of hard work, you will discover what life was really like in that time of domestic servants, the upper class, and more.

Historia
Candy Montgomery and Betty Gore had a lot in common: They sang together in the Methodist church choir, their daughters were best friends, and their husbands had good jobs working for technology companies in the North Dallas suburbs known as Silicon Prairie. But beneath the placid surface of their seemingly perfect lives, both women simmered with unspoken frustrations and unanswered desires. On a hot summer day in 1980, the secret passions and jealousies that linked Candy and Betty exploded into murderous rage.

Kept My Interest
Revisado: 09-16-23
This was a case I wasn't aware of, so it held my interest through the final verdict.
While the case itself captured my attention, this was in great part thanks to the outstanding narrator.
Mr. Constant has an excellent speaking voice and a dramatic way of presenting the material. If you enjoy
true crime, this one should interest you.

Historia
Buried for decades, the Up Stairs Lounge tragedy has only recently emerged as a catalyzing event of the gay liberation movement. In revelatory detail, Robert W. Fieseler chronicles the tragic event that claimed the lives of 31 men and one woman on June 24, 1973, at a New Orleans bar, the largest mass murder of gays until 2016. Relying on unprecedented access to survivors and archives, Fieseler creates an indelible portrait of a closeted, blue-collar gay world that flourished before an arsonist ignited an inferno that destroyed an entire community.

Interesting and Informative
Revisado: 09-06-23
I sadly had not heard of this fire before, perhaps as I was only a pre-teen when it occurred. For those wanting details of the fire event itself, it is here. To learn about how the LGBTQ community was treated "back then" and how those who perished in the fire were finally commemorated decades later, that is here as well. The author did thorough research.
The narrator was easy to listen to and spoke at a normal pace.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Better than expected
Revisado: 02-02-23
I wasn't sure what to expect based on word of mouth and media reviews. If you are looking for a book full of juicy revelations, this book is probably not for you. Nor is it as "whiney" as you may have heard. Instead it is a story from one person's point of view , and in this case the person is Harry, brother of Prince William. There are at least two sides of every story, but of course in this audio book we are only hearing one.
If you approach this without great expectations, you will probably find this an interesting listen. Having the author's narration, in my opinion, elevates this narrative greatly. Nothing earth shattering here, but certainly not a waste of a credit.

Historia
In 1994, Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson were brutally murdered at her home in Brentwood, California. O. J. Simpson was tried for the crime, but was ultimately found not guilty of criminal charges. The victims' families brought civil cases against Simpson, in which he was found liable for willfully and wrongfully causing the deaths of Ron and Nicole by committing battery with malice and oppression. The Goldman family views this book as Simpson's confession.

Excellent Narrator
Revisado: 11-14-22
I agree with many of the opinions of other listeners...O.J. is the very definition of a narcissist. He will only accept blame for the mildest offenses while complaining that everyone else mistreated him. In short, he is not a likeable man.
While the narrative had me rolling my eyes at times, I must commend the narrator. He made me believe that I was listening to O.J. himself. I'm proud of the Goldman family for fighting for the right to control the publication (and the finances coming from it).

The Chicago Tylenol poisonings and the copycat crimes that followed.

Something for everyone
Revisado: 09-10-22
This series of lectures was fantastic. I learned new information from cases I thought I knew inside out. Professor Murray has a pleasant speaking voice and presents the science of forensics through both well known cases and those that are more obscure.
A wide range of topics are covered, from mass murder to kidnappings, and from art forgeries to the atrocities of the concentration camps in WWII. Whether you are a true crime fan or a devoted crime scene investigation tv viewer, there is something for everyone in these informative and entertaining lectures.

Historia
On the evening of July 27, 1985, five hikers made a fateful choice to climb Yosemite's fabled Half Dome, even as the sky darkened and thunder rolled. By night's end, two would be dead from a lightning strike, three gravely wounded, and desperate EMTs would be overseeing a harrowing midnight helicopter rescue.

Excellent Narrator
Revisado: 06-20-21
The narrator is the star of this audiobook. Even when reading some of the duller aspects of the book, the excitement and tone of his voice kept my attention. During the crisis, I was able to feel I was there thanks to Mr. Heald's dramatic story-telling.
There was perhaps more coverage of the background and biography of the characters in the book than on the incident itself,, but if you have ever climbed the Half Dome or hiked in Yosemite, you will probably give this more stars.

Historia
At midday on May 4, 1970, after three days of protests, several thousand students and the Ohio National Guard faced off at opposite ends of the grassy campus commons at Kent State University. At noon, the Guard moved out. Twenty-four minutes later, Guardsmen launched a 13-second, 67-shot barrage that left four students dead and nine wounded, one paralyzed for life.

Outstanding
Revisado: 01-02-21
One of the best Audible books yet. It brought a lot of new (to me at least) information to the topic of the Kent State Massacre. Well rounded to include interviews with and thoughts of students, townspeople, guardsmen, faculty, political leaders and more. Outstanding narration held my attention throughout. If you have any interest at all in this topic, give this one a try.

Historia
The facts are brutally straightforward. On December 6, 1991, the naked, bound and gagged bodies of four girls - each one shot in the head - were found in an I Can't Believe It's Yogurt! shop in Austin, Texas. Grief, shock, and horror spread out from their families and friends to overtake the city itself. Though all branches of law enforcement were brought to bear, the investigation was often misdirected, and after eight years only two men (then teenagers) were tried.

A Sad Case
Revisado: 12-18-20
To some, this case has been solved, to most, the real killers are still out there. This audiobook takes a hard look at how law enforcement goes about solving crimes and how questionable tactics can throw justice into chaos. All the characters are fleshed out fairly well so you have a good feel for their motives and lifestyles.
Some listeners have mentioned the narrator for this book. While she does not have the smooth voice we have come to expect on audiobooks, she still is a competent narrator and you become accustomed to her way of speaking after a short while.
There isn't much joy to find in this factual account, with true crime there rarely is, but this is a good treatment of the case and the sad loss of the young girls working in the yogurt shop that night.
