Historia
Almost everyone feels stuck in some way. Whether you’re muddling through a midlife crisis, wrestling with writer’s block, trapped in a thankless job, or trying to remedy a fraying friendship, the resulting emotion is usually a mix of anxiety, uncertainty, fear, anger, and numbness. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Anatomy of a Breakthrough is the “deeply researched and compelling” (Cal Newport, New York Times bestselling author of Digital Minimalism) roadmap we all need to escape our inertia and flourish in the face of friction.

Good, practical tips for experimenting and getting unstuck

This is exactly the book I was looking for about experimenting in life. It is well thought out, gives practical tips, and is insightful

Historia
Do you know anyone who's truly living The Good Life? Traditionally, philosophers and psychologists have thought of the Good Life in terms of happiness or meaning, or some combination of both. But, if it’s really that simple, if all you need is more happiness or meaning to get to the Good Life, why aren’t more of us achieving that truly “good” life? You’ve hit all the traditional markers, jumped on the happiness train, committed to a gratitude practice, sought purpose in your work, and yet The Good Life you’re seeking, is still out of reach.

Interesting idea, but lacks depth
Revisado: 02-25-25
The idea is interesting, but she is repetitive and her argument lacks any significant insight. I would say pass on this one. For the audiobook, the narrator is not good. She makes the book sound like a motivational speech. it's annoying

Historia
Over the past century, if the wealthiest families had spent a reasonable fraction of their wealth, paid taxes, invested in the stock market, and passed their wealth down to the next generation, there would be tens of thousands of billionaire heirs to generations-old fortunes today. The puzzle of The Missing Billionaires is why you cannot find one such billionaire on any current rich list. There are a number of explanations, but this book is focused on one mistake which is of profound importance to all investors: poor risk decisions, both in investing and spending.

Financial jargon
Revisado: 12-26-24
Book is very technical, even though the title and table of contents do not present it as such. The book has very little application to real life, but it might, if you can weed your way through all the jargon. I'm not sure who the audience is that this is written for. Is it personal finance advisors or college students? Or for extremely studious investors?
I wouldn't throw this book out completely. I may try it again and see if it was me who is just impatient or ignorant. Just be advised this isn't a book that you can rish through and have a clear picture of what to do in your day-to-day life.

Why is Red Bull so popular, though everyone—everyone!—hates the taste? Humans are, in a word, irrational, basing decisions as much on subtle external signals (that little blue can) as on objective qualities (flavor, price, quality). The surrounding world, meanwhile, is irreducibly complex and random. This means future success can’t be projected on any accounting spreadsheet. To strike gold, you must master the dark art and curious science of conjuring irresistible ideas: alchemy.

Good but not what I expected
Revisado: 10-29-24
I saw Roy on several podcasts and really liked his style of unconventional thinking. But I think a book is not Roy's fitting medium. On podcasts, Roy is interesting because he zigs and zags through ideas and you can tell he is thinking while he's speaking too. A book, in contrast, makes Roy feel constrained and lacks the enthusiasm he has when speaking spontaneously. The ideas and the book itself are ok, but I would watch Roy's talk or interviews, rather than read this.

Historia
Jane Bennett, renowned for her work on nature, ethics, and affect, shifts her focus from the human experience of things to things themselves. Bennett argues that political theory needs to do a better job of recognizing the active participation of nonhuman forces in events. Toward that end, she theorizes a “vital materiality” that runs through and across bodies, both human and nonhuman. She suggests that recognizing that agency is distributed this way, and is not solely the province of humans, might spur the cultivation of a more responsible, ecologically sound politics

I love the ideas.... I think?
Revisado: 01-15-23
I believe this book has some great ideas in it. But sadly it's filled to the brim with academic jargon and obscure references that maybe you get if you're an academic in Philosophy. The best part of the book is the first chapter, and the only portion of the book I was able to follow.

Recycled information
Revisado: 03-25-22
It's well organized but the ideas are recycled from other sources. You've probably heard most of them already. I was expecting more from such a popular book
